Laundry Room Remodeling Design Dilemma

Laundry Room Redo Help

I have a small laundry room (60" x 106") with 8-foot ceilings that I want to make more functional. I'm starting a kitchen renovation soon (the tile floor has been removed, revealing beautiful linoleum!), and I'm considering tackling the laundry room while I have things torn apart. All plumbing, electrical, and vents are on the right wall, shared with the garage. I'm considering replacing my side-by-side washer/dryer with an LG WashTower. I removed the old, stained utility sink but do want to install a new one. It seems pretty straight forward but given my struggles with decision-making/overthinking every detail during the kitchen planning process, I'm a bit hesitant about starting this project. How hard can it be to design this small space? Ha! Thanks for any advice/help.

Perfect. Set it at the corner, 90° elbow at back of the machine, length of solid-flue ducting to connect at the floor.

will the stacked unit fit in the open space you have?

will you add a free standing utility sink or do a base cabinet with a drop in sink?

Hi Lyn,

I am able put the unit anywhere along the wall between the sink area and the wall with the window. I didn't mention that I am willing to remove the cupboards and start fresh with new cabinets. I'm open to either type of sink.

Drains and vent pipe is an issue, as are the fuse boxes you can't block, and that's a nice arrangement in many ways. You can easily triple the storage capacity of that area: With shelving - go all the way to the ceiling with it. The top-most shelf can be deeper than the others if you size it to fit light-weight but large items, like packs of toilet tissue or stockpots. 1 - Install a shallow set of shelves (4 or 6") across the back of the closet, above the tallest adult's shoulder level. Hang a folding step stool below the shelves. Use as pantry 2 - Add shelves above the current sets, so you aren't stacking boxes like the previous owner. That's prime storage space for the things you don't use every day, like huge pots 3 - Find a roll-out cart that can hold at least two laundry baskets and store it between the appliances. That should give you plenty of ideas.

Try open shelves on adjustable standards next to the window. Put a laundry basket or hamper under them, then start the shelves about waist high. Try four shelves. Adjust as needed. Keep the big detergent dispenser where its drips are easy to clean up. Slide a rectangular trash bin next to the window. Above the washer and dryer, add two large colorful artworks such as framed posters or one framed artwork and one good-sized mirror. Or add a clothes rod suspended from the ceiling for hanging clothes directly out of the dryer. It could also act as a rod for drying. A fold down valet rod may be useful, too, on the wall to the right of the door frame. The kink in the flexible dryer exhaust hose should be straightened out for safety and efficiency. Check to see if a sturdier exhaust hose is required by local code.

Put the tower machine at the location on the wall of the dryer exhaust port for the shortest direct route.

Looks like with a tower you may need to remove upper cabinets. If the laundry machine doors open to the right, it would make sense to me to put the tower where the washer is, and use the space to the left for a folding counter with shelves below for baskets to hold clean laundry. Or shift the tower all the way to the right, if it will clear the doorway. Then you might put a folding counter in the middle, the sink at the far left end and perhaps keep the upper cabinets. There are "loads" of laundry room stories on Houzz - worth looking for ideas here!

Thank you for the suggestions. My dryer vent hole is an opening in the floor in the far corner closest to the exterior brick. We are on a crawlspace so vented down and out. My sink plumbing is closet to the room entrance so maybe makes sense to leave the sink as it was and put the tower closet the window side? I'll check out the "loads" of stories. Haha. I've never scoped out that area of the website.
