Healthy Lifestyle Progress - Week of 11/13
Comments (37)Just a few thoughts. I always tell myself that the best thing I can do is keep being there and listening no matter how uncomfortable everybody is. It takes a long time to start to be able to communicate when something like this has happened. Still the people need to know you're there and supportive as I'm sure you know. I'm blinking back tears just reading what happened and I cannot imagine how long it takes to even feel like a person can move on after that. They need all of our love and understanding and time... plenty of time and space to feel what they feel. I really really admire you for being able to continue in times of stress. In case I haven't said so before I tend to completely collapse. I'm working on it but I'm not the best at it. I've been struggling a bit with depression which is regular for this time of year for me. I keep trying to remind myself take another step to another little thing, it will add up. Not enough but it will add up. Those mysterious two pounds have stayed off. Unfortunately more have not joined them....See MoreHealthy Lifestyle Progress - Week of 3/2/2025
Comments (29)Thursday after I played golf all afternoon (after going to the gym in the am) I had a splurge dinner of a hamburger and french fries at the club. I was famished had not eaten since about 11:30 am and —- unusual—ate every bit of it. Friday I did not feel well, with some nausea and cramping that got much worse as the day progressed. DH capled my doctor who sent an order for a CT scan with oral and IV contrast to our local hospital and it revealed I was having an episode of acute cholecystitis. ☹️ Today I am better and this has reinforced my determination to keep my fat intake low. I already knew high fat meals could trigger this as I had problems with my gall bladder years ago. Guess I needed a reminder to stay in my lane with lean meats, fruits and veg....See MoreHealthy Lifestyle Progress - Week of 3/30/2025
Comments (39)Surgery went well and I am home with a very sore abdomen and pain between my shoulders (Co2 gas used to insufflate the operative area passing off). Came home with a variety of real drugs that went into the safe and I am treating with ibuprofen. Plan to hang around home tomorrow and Saturday, will go to church Sunday and go to our university choir practice Sunday night. Monday will be a down day as I have choral society practice that night. We are singing Karl Jenkins’ The Armed Man in May and I don’t want to miss any practice time. We’re collaborating with the ballet and a full size orchestra for two performances; for our small town it is a really big deal. Some not so good news…… when I had my semiannual endocrinology appt at Emory aI learned that my TSH levels / Hashimoto’s is apparently spiraling out of control. Medication has been changed and I am going back in six weeks for more labs. Unfortunately trauma like surgery can affect thyroid hormones —-happened with my last two surgeries— so that may mean other additional, albeit temporary, changes in treatment. But at least this does explain why I am wearing sweaters on 79 degree days, and having sleep problems again despite being tired a lot. Yay if those symptoms go away! You ladies walking with weighted vests…..hats off to you! I also have the beginnings of osteopenia but Endocrinologist says I am nowhere near needing treatment and wants me to eat more calcium rich foods as a first step. Thank goodness she didn’t suggest walking with weights because I don’t think I could make myself do it, it sounds…….unpleasant. 🤔...See MoreHealthy Lifestyle Progress - Week of 4/20/2025
Comments (9)Whew it’s been a busy week. I did make it to Pilates twice and then I took my special populations class on Thursday. I did weights this week, too. MIL is doing OK. We saw the orthopedic guy. He feels she will heal with PT and the sling, so that is good, but he said worst case scenario she could need a shoulder replacement if she doesn’t. We’ve not had to go there every day but most days. We are supposed to go out of town for the music festival in a couple of weeks, but we are not sure if she will be able to come over to feed the cats. I guess we’d have to find someone.. I will check with the vets if one of their staff is a pet sitter.. DH does not want to board them because little girl was so furious when she had the hyperthyroid treatment. We could probably resell the tickets because they are weekend VIP. OTOH we’ve never had anyone over to the house, so we’d be concerned about that, too. I am ok with trying to board but he is definitely not. I had a big scale victory with a middle number I haven’t seen since the 2000’s lol. I have the weight management clinic this upcoming week, so we can talk goals and maintenance. I will need to do an updated BodPod. I had the updated blood work today because it was messed up after CO**D, and it looks like everything is back to normal. Whew. My cholesterol and liver values are back down. We did not test A1C because it was just tested 6 weeks ago. Will do step aerobics in the morning and need to do grading and make up final exams. Watching NFL draft now....See MoreRelated Professionals
