Need Design Inspiration- Powder/Laundry
Comments (5)I really like that sink. If I didn't need the storage in my small bathroom cabinet, I might consider something like that myself. It's so streamlined. The only thing I wonder about for you is whether you are going to want the sink to function both as a laundry room sink and a bathroom sink, in which case it seems bigger is better? Seems like marine-finished wood would work well and go with the organic vibe. Do you like your W/D stacked? It seems like you would have the room to unstack them and put a counter all the way across if you wanted. For me, I'm short so I'd love to have the space for both the washer and dryer to be on the floor. The kitchen cabinetry would certainly work there. The other option that would tempt me in your house would be to go with the recycled/rustic wood look you can get these days, even as an upgrade on IKEA cabinets....See MoreDesperately need a designer/decorator's help with this fireplace wall!
Comments (2)Thank you MSDG I don't know if I'm doing paneling work -- I need help designing the entire wall. The firebox cannot be moved because there is an egress window right next to it on the outside (basement). I'm not looking for the black/white look, I was showing the photo for the mantle style. What do you mean "Furred out portion around fire box?" Do you mean the marble before the wood post section? I can't decide if I should do a heart or not. I like it sometimes, but I need to figure out the entire wall to see what looks good together. I also like the look of a window seat, but I don't want it to look so casual like a kitchen bench. Do you think I should put a new window only on the right side of the fireplace? What are your thoughts on a bench seat underneath it? Thanks so much for your help!!...See MoreColour & design inspiration needed
Comments (1)The ceiling is 12 feet. I feel the fireplace wall needs a dark colour to anchor the room and give it a warmer homey feel. I was thinking a dark charcoal with a purple undertone... (swatch can be seen in photo) Or perhaps even wallpaper? Also behind the grey shelf there is a TV and plug...should we have some shelves/built ins made and if so..what would work? Photo in comments as I couldnt see where I could add it to the original post on my phone....See MoreInspiration needed! Fireplace surround
Comments (11)Any reason why you would not want a glass door. Glass doors are specifically made for wood burning. Main reason being that when you burn a fire you normally leave the damper open all night as the fire dies out. With glass doors, you can close them when the fire is dying out and leave the damper open, so you don't get all that cold air coming into the home at night. Glass doors will normally have mesh curtains or backup wire mesh doors behind the glass so you can burn the fire with the doors open. Some glass doors can also be burned with the doors closed. Not that other types of screens might be appropriate, I am more curious why you think glass doors would not be good for wood burning....See MoreRelated Professionals
