Decor Ideas needed- design around new metal loft bed
Comments (22)Hey, what is wrong with a Cheetos bag, especially from the perspective of a high schooler? LOL I think I would move the bed unit to the wall that the door is on. That way when you look into the room it isn't the first thing that you see, so that it overwhelms the space. Also, I think the wall it is on currently could be put to better use. Be sure you mount some kind of shelf up on the wall by the bed, so that he can put an alarm clock up there. You will want to mount a swing-arm lamp up on the wall so that he can read in bed and not have to get down to turn off lights. Have a comforter, not a bedspread, for ease of making the bed. This bedding from Penney's might be perfect: stan comforter I would get a drafting table or something along those lines, and put that in the corner where the windows all meet. That will give him great light for working on schoolwork and puzzles. Then the two seating pieces can be down that wall and into the opposite corner a bit near the closet door. Maybe a inexpensive small plastic or RTA table between the two seating pieces. I would do the orange as a stripe that runs around the room, as wide and at the same level as the space between the bottom of the bunk and the back support brace on the bed unit (about desk height. That should put it just above about 30 inches at the bottom, so just above chair rail height. Behind the desk in that area, instead of just an orange stripe, make it orange-painted corkboard or bulletin boards so that he has a place to hang stuff related to school and other reminders, a calendar, etc. I would look for other ways to bring in the orange, like painting the fam blades, a couple of throw pillows in a wild print that includes the blues and oranges, orange frames on artwork or photos. You could also consider adding orange stitching lines to your denim walls, done every so many inches to mimic the stitching on denim jeans. Oh, and I don't think a 14x14 room is small at all. Our younger son had a similar unit in his room when younger, and that space was 10.5x11 with 8 ft. ceilings. Didn't overwhelm that room at all. More room than two people have in the typical college dorm room, too. Looks like you have had fun and done a great job on the walls!...See Morethoughts on covering a triangular window?
Comments (14)Ha, Annie, now all I can picture is two blinking eyes up there! :) Faux68, I had thought about window tinting film, but I don't think it would really do enough to block out the early morning light that we need. linelle, it's because of folks like you that I know I don't want to permanently remove them--some folks would love these windows, I'm sure. Just not us, at 5am in the summer. :) Good to know about the light blocking ability of shutters, olychick, thanks! And I'd been wondering about opening them way up there, a pole makes sense, thanks Geoffrey. I think I'll look into the option of a more traditional window covering (shutters or blinds), since that seems like it'd look more stylish than a board or fabric piece that just covers it up, but those might be in the cards if the shutters/blinds would be a zillion dollars. Off to the custom blinds place for me......See MoreNeed Advice on Bedroom Area Rug & Window Coverings
Comments (12)thank you! I hadn't considered gray for the rug. I know it's neutral but wasn't sure about adding another prominent color. I had been looking at blue (navy) or red, but wasn't sure if I could pull off a geometric or striped pattern with the stripes on the one wall and the busy coverlet pattern. Would anything like this work: https://www.wayfair.com/rugs/pdp/highland-dunes-jago-striped-handmade-tufted-ivoryblue-area-rug-hidn7327.html?piid=31943158 https://www.overstock.com/Home-Garden/Safavieh-Handmade-Childrens-Stripes-New-Zealand-Wool-Rug-8-X-10/7026050/product.html?kwds=safavieh kids rug&refccid=ULYBSLO26RNZEJ2EJNF43JVRCY&rfmt=&searchidx=40 https://rugs.com/navy-blue-5x8-angelica-area-rug-6254554?gclid=CjwKCAiAo5qABhBdEiwAOtGmbuh7jyBd8WHXU0Cy4nxOr8FmnfQYeKgen_8cOg94j-35Lq0Xpk_VKRoC3H0QAvD_BwE&gclsrc=aw.ds https://rugs.com/red-5x8-lattice-frieze-area-rug-6293322?gclid=CjwKCAiAo5qABhBdEiwAOtGmbtT_VU-HM4GTX9IUynY-fVTzqNCAM2Sj-OIGPmKMEXcocrfrWtQRphoC0UgQAvD_BwE&gclsrc=aw.ds https://www.wayfair.com/rugs/pdp/breakwater-bay-edgebrooke-red-rug-w001802626.html?piid=2007201777 https://rugs.com/red-6x9-kasbah-trellis-area-rug-6295252 Or is there another pattern/color I should consider? thank you!!...See MoreTriangular bedroom layout. - need advice
Comments (7)What is the long rectangle drawn on the door wall in both plans - a free standing wardrobe / closet? I don’t see a built in closet in room which I think is not unusual for european apartments. Looks like the door wall is the only place it fits so choice for bed is window wall or opposite wall. I would want to wake up & see that beautiful view & also be able to stand in front of the windows & maybe even have seating in front of them. Why would the bed need to be flush against the wall the full width of bed & why even think about adding extension to the wall to accomplish that? Just place the bed & nightstands against the wall opposite windows & in the best spot to leave enough room to easily walk around the end of bed to get to other side & just leave the open space behind part of the bed & night stand on that side of bed closest to door of room. Maybe that side of bed gets a floor lamp instead of lamp on nightstand to use some of the space or, set a free standing beautiful screen along the space to give the illusion of a wall & use space behind screen for storage. Fabulous apartment!...See MoreRelated Professionals
