It's April- How is your build progressing?
Comments (56)Curvygirl: the floors are just plain character hickory with no stain. Nothing special. But thanks for the compliments. Junior: I keep waiting for pictures of your ArtsCrafts house. Please share with us. We like that style, too, and have incorporated some into our house, mostly in the built ins and woodwork. We should have certificate of occupancy next week, I think. All that's left to do is finish these floors, carpet, and put the stone on the front columns. Oh, and one small item, the driveway! Base is laid and ready for asphalt....See MoreIt's April 2014, how is your build?
Comments (150)Maggiepie, how exciting!!! This Saturday? Good luck with your walk through! Indiana, I hear you about the rain. We had over 7 inches Thursday and Friday. What a mess. They were supposed to put in our septic this week, but not sure if the ground is too wet. JDez, what a crazy mess for you. Hope they get the HVAC worked out. Lori, I love your message center. Still can't believe you got all that installed! Caben, looking good with the framing. I bet you are glad that part is almost over. Our painters decided to come back yesterday. Thank goodness. They are here again today. I asked if they'd be here tomorrow and painter said he didn't think so. Then, I said that we would probably have his check for this month and we'd hold it for them in the morning. Then his tune changed and he said they'd could be here in the morning and do more work. Geesh!!! They did get a lot done yesterday and already this morning. They painted the family room yesterday. You can see in the picture our painter applying primer on the laundry cabinets. They got all the rest of the kitchen and island cabinets stained yesterday and the woman painter was applying first coat of poly on them today. This is just some of the cabinets she stained. They sprayed one coat of marine-type finish on the tongue-and-grove that is going in on our porch ceiling. And sprayed the primer on the laundry doors and drawer fronts. Also, our vanities, bath storage cabinet, and window seats were delivered yesterday. Can't really see them very well with the covering. I'm anxious to see them in place. Here is a large storage cabinet that will be between our master bath and our closet. It will have a seat under it so we can sit and dress. Here's the bench with two-door storage that goes under the storage cabinet. It's like a window seat and has a wooden top. Our cabinet will look just like our daughter's, just different cabinet company and stain. Here are the bathroom vanities....See MoreIt's April 2024. How is your build going?
Comments (157)Here's something odd. Stopped by yesterday and saw that our ovens and fridge have been installed (yay!!!). But the fridge comes in 2 different models--one with normal handles and one with recessed handles. (They are otherwise identical.) I ordered the normal handle model because I like regular handles, and they go with the ovens. But now that I see it in place, space-wise the recessed handles are better because they don't impinge on the aisle. (Although I do think the normal handles would look better with the ovens.) However, another weird thing is that we had 4,000 conversations/emails about the air space required around the fridge. But when I open the fridge door a reasonable amount, it hits the front of the side cabinet panel. I don't think there's enough space on the sides, and the side panel is probably slightly too deep front to back. Maybe there's a simple fix. I hope! edge of fridge door, meet edge of cabinet panel:...See MoreIt's January 2025. How's Your Build Going?
Comments (20)I designed the asymmetrical roof profile to maximize the southern side for PV. After an hour with the engineers at the link below, we are going DC lighting all the way. I am very excited to get a system that just takes the DC and does jobs with it @48v I can omit their power supplies from the cabinet and run DC up from the bank. They have ceiling fans, exhaust fans, and now I am looking at DC circulation for the hydronic heating. That may be a bridge too far, but we will see. I am an old FreeBSD guy from the 90's and this system gets set up with a Raspberry Pi, and integrates with Phillips Hue and other home automation via the Pi. The cost breakdown was competitive IMO, and things like programmed color gradient, fade to warm, perfect flicker free dimming, N-way programmable switching rather than the old 14-3 running all over for 3 ways are all attractive. I wanted LED strip lighting under my handrails for navigation up to the sundeck and this will be cake. Their smart switch will allow color adjustment with the dimmer slider. It is not a flip switch, it is a momentary. Hold it and the dimmer slider becomes the color adjuster for that whole circuit. Release and it is the dimmer. The same switch will provide 12VDC to a bathroom fan and operate the lights and fan on motion, when paired with one of the PIR fixtures or an industry standard sensor. I will do that for the guest powder room. https://awg18.com/...See MoreRelated Professionals
