A kitchenette that blends into the den

I would love advice for a beach house. I am designing a flexible multi-use space that will be a family den in an area of the house that can be closed off with its own entrance and rented as an apartment. If we ever rent it as a summer weekend apartment, the den will serve as a great room with a small functioning kitchenette (cabinets (only bottom so a tv can be above) microwave, small fridge, and sink). We may never rent it, but we would like the flexibility. When it is being used as a den, we do not want it to look like we have a kitchen stuck in the middle of the living room with a TV above the sink. I am looking for a few design strategies to make the space cohesive, elevated, and convertible.
