help with family room rug

Hi
I just got the sectional and I need a bigger rug. The wall color is aesthetic beige, accent on fireplace wall folkstone and my breakfast nook ceiling is seasalt. You guys helped picked the rug for my living room and I look forward to your suggestions

I'd get a huge white plush rug. It's more of a personal preference though.

The pillows look tired on that lovely couch. Find something that has more texture and bulk, and also larger as suggested. I'm afraid the coffee table doesn't do justice to the furniture and rug. I would find one made of glass and metal, with a lower level for added storage room. You can still put your feet on it; we've been doing it for years without any damage. The one you have also looks very narrow in relation to the furniture.

If you really want a rug that large, then plan to put all the seating entirely on it. I really wouldn't want it closer to the hearth than 15-18" so it isn't a fire hazard. A good general "rule" you could tape out would be to place it 18" from the hearth, slipping it under the front 1/3 of the sofas. Leggy chairs like your wings should either be all the way on it or all the way off. If you want a cozy family/TV room, I would replace the formal, upright wing chairs and the loveseat (which mostly hinders a good seating arrangement) with four comfy swivel chairs.

I’d break up the blue and grey by introducing a warm beige and some natural elements. A textured, tone on tone beige rug would create a soft and relaxed feel in room. New Zealand wool rugs are not that expensive and will last forever Then you could rethink your accent cushions

IMO the current layout you have for your furnishings doesn't take into consideration the architecture of the room. Center a rug on the FP. That is the focal point of the rom Place your TV above the FP because that horizontal mirror is not doing you any favors. Center your seating sectional on the centerline of the fireplace. I'm not recommending a white rug, but other than blue I can't see any other color you're using on a continuing basis.

I was lucky enough to find a rug store that would bring up to 5 of my selections to my home, lay each out in turn AND do it without charge. Might be helpful to ask if any store near you would do that. My husband found it very helpful for him visually and us both with choosing a size.

Nothing beats a visual aid!

I also looked for stain guard treated and consideed outdoor grade as well, for durability.
