2LittleFishies: my upholstered sitting area chairs are tub styled with no wood but my dining chairs are wood with upholster seat cushions. I sprayed my chairs in the house. I put a plastic tarp down on my wood floors first under the chairs. I did nothing to protect the wood on my dining chairs. I can't say how much of the product may have gotten on the wood but if any did there was no damage. The 303 High Tech Fabric Guard is in a non- aerosol bottle spray bottle that can be set to spray or stream. The bottle contains the usually warnings about fumes and ventilation but to me it really was not smelly and there is absolutely no chemical smell left on the treated fabric. The spray makes the fabric water repellant. Water literally does bead up on it which it does not do on my new living room couch with a factory applied stain guard. I did test putting cooking oil on some scrap fabric that I treated with the 303 and it cleaned up with no stain. I dont recall what the content of my fabrics is. It says on the bottle that it is for all fabric but suggests testing for colorfastness. It also says it is recommended by and for Sunbrella Brand Fabric so I guess that's a pretty could endorsement. I guess it's considered expensive at about $14 for a 16 ounce bottle. But I think it is worth it. I sprayed it liberally and did 8 dining chair cushions and the top, sides, front, back and both sides of the cushions for two tub chairs. I used about 24 ounces of the product. I think you need to create an idea book to discover what you like best. Go to the Houzz side and save photos of all the kitchens that you love. Grab a few kitchen magazines and pull out the photos of kitchens that make you squeal with delight. Just do this randomly with no agenda, i.e., don't tell yourself I'll only pull out kitchens that are white, for example. After you have collected quite a few of these kitchen photos, take a look at them and see what things are the most common about these kitchens, the thing that drew you to that kitchen in the first place. If you're having trouble defining that, post the photos here. Some people have done that and the creative folks here with good design eyes have helped them identify the details that they really like and would want in their finished kitchen. Doing this should lead you to learning whether oak, quarter-sawn or not, maple, painted, two-tone or single tone, yada yada are your real preferences and help you make the right choice for you. While I respect the opinions of all who answered your question, they don't live in your kitchen. You do. So, yes, it's nice to get ideas from people. Sometimes they see a flaw or have an idea you wouldn't have thought of yourself. But don't choose your cabinets by taking a poll and buying the one with the most votes. I hope you have time to do an idea book. I think you'll find it illuminating.

Vent-a-Hood owner here...it's great, nothing gets past it. I can watch the steam, smoke, etc., rising and being captured by the hood with no escaping out into the rest of the room. It's nice not smelling stale food odors the next morning. You also cannot smell the odors during meal time. (Now if only I had the same for my double ovens!) I think the key to effectiveness of any hood is to be sure to size it appropriately. It should be: At least 6" wider than the cooking appliance (36" range means a hood at least 42" wide) 24" deep (27" deep if on an island or peninsula) CFMs should be at least 600, with more better Duct diameter at least 10" (quieter than 8") If you have a remote blower, it'll be quieter The stronger the fan, the lower the setting you'll need to use on a daily basis and the quieter it will be when in use BTW...I also recommend looking into induction. My mom used gas all her life but when she had replace her range three years ago, I talked her into induction. She was skeptical, but she loves it! She'll never go back to gas.
