Okay, I'll bring some fig cuttings. Thank for the offer, but I have three figs trees which is all I have room for. Does anyone have seeds or small plants of the little vine LOVE IN A PUFF? If you do I'd like to get it going again. Reworked the beds it was in so thoroughly it didn't come back this year. BTW, I found some four inch pots of PORTERWEED at ARE so don't need those. Lisa, You specifically mentioned nice smelling shrubs. I am a big fan of fragrant plants. There are lots of them that are great in the heat and don't mind dry weather. Wintersweet - Chimonanthus praecox - blooms in the winter. Very fragrant. Winter honeysuckle - Not a vine, but a shrub, with blooms from November through April. Very fragrant and the scent carries on the air. Banana shrub - Michelia figo or Michelia skinneria - Part shade plant with blooms that smell very strongly of bananas (but in a good and delicious way). The scent can carry 100'. One of my absolute favorite plants. Sweet olive - Osmanthus fragrans - Blooms off and on, whenever the weather isn't too hot and isn't below freezing. Would probably bloom all fall - winter - early spring for you. Smells very strongly of apricots. Roses - especially the antique ones that will pretty much take care of themselves - like Cramosi Superior, or Duchesse de Brabant. Almost any of the china or tea roses are really good. Sweet almond verbena - blooms in summer- Not trailing verbena like you are thinking, but almost shrub like, with spikes of fragrant flowers. Hope this helps, Carrie

Awww Thanks for checking on me Lisa! I enjoyed talking with you also. Tatertot casserole yummmm. I've been out in the garden a lot, unfortunately it's ridiculously hot!! I mean it's 90 plus degrees in October for crying out loud. I've been patiently waiting for it to cool off enough for something to bloom and not instantly crisp so I can take some pics to post an update! Hopefully it won't be 90plus in November. I'm especially dieing to take pics for Ben and Moses once those rose start to bloom, but alas I'm trying to have patience *sigh* . Today was in the 70's for most of the day but I'm trying not to get my hopes up. I've had a few more losses in the drift rose department, but I expect everything else to make a full recovery! I promise as soon as it cools off and I actually get a fall flush it will be pictures galore around here!
