Lighting + wall color thoughts?

Just bought a home and have some projects to tackle. The house doesn’t have super high ceilings, and it has lots of woodwork and some darker mahogany floors. I don’t have the budget right now to replace kitchen countertops and cabinetry (already have to replace all the appliances… fun!) I am still very undecided on lighting and wall colors for the kitchen and entryway. Any feedback would be much appreciated! Thank you. 😊

  • Lighting in kitchen: I would like to possibly change out pendant lights (or may just leave them), and the light over the sink. There is also a missing light in front of the fireplace.

    • Pendant lights I am stumped on - other than doing some kind of mini traditional or transitional pendant with glass/seeded glass.
    • For the light over the sink - I was thinking something flush mount and simple - like a Linen Shade Ceiling Light.
    • For the missing light in front of the fireplace - I was thinking of doing a fairly simple chandelier or Drum Ceiling Light.
  • Entryway lighting: should I keep the lighting metal dark - ie: black? Or go with brushed nickel? Entryway ceiling is not vaulted, so I wanted something more flush. Maybe something like the Possini Euro McKenzie 14" Wide 2-Light Ceiling Light?

  • For wall colors: I am really trying to keep things light and airy, without being boring and sticking with an off white shade. For the kitchen (and this would include living room, bathroom off the kitchen):

    • SW Liveable Green
    • SW Window Pane (worried about it being too pastel-y though)
    • SW Sea Salt
    • SW Sweater Weather or SW Repose Gray
  • I think something slightly green would actually look nice, but not sure. More taupe-y may actually work better? Any suggestions for wall colors with a kitchen like this?

  • I originally considered doing a different color in the entryway but now I am thinking to do whatever I choose for the kitchen.

  • Another question - for backsplash in kitchen: was going to stick with a neutral tile that’s not too busy, and it would depend on wall color. Should I just stick with off-white?
