Why do you want to wallpaper? What did you have in mind?

Instead, why not get a bigger, more interesting patterned rug for the play area and replace the big basket with a great piece of food art? Or just pair art you love with a patterned rug. Would you show the rest of the space that faces dining area?

Your wallpaper didn't post but with all that's going on in the room with the toys I would simply do some window treatment with roman shades instead of wallpaper.

I wouldn't paper until you're out of the kid/toys stage of your life.

the toys add all the interest and color you need.

Paint is cheap, repaint when you need a change.

I think wallpaper is fine because you have the beam as a natural delineation between the kitchen and other area. I can see wanting to add the subtle interest of neutral wallpaper.

There does not seem to be much wall space for paper, which could end up looking piecemeal.

Are you trying to draw the eye up away from the toys? Because the window shades rendered by lisedv do a remarkable job of that --plus softening the room a whole bunch.

For me a wallpaper needs to be chosen to add something to a space and I honestly see no walls that can really be wallpapered for any benefit until all the kids stuff is gone form the space . SorryI had 3 kids and never had this much stuff in a space thta looks like it shouldbe afamily room with great storage to take back the space at night . Accent walls need to be IMO empty wall with no doorways or windows breaking up the wall Maybe for now just a fun cheap rug to add some color and texture to the space . More fun stools too would be great and ones the kids can get into so swivel and maybe adjustable depending on the kids ages .

It's a short time that young children play with all those toys with parents having to be nearby. Instead of using wallpaper to try to connect your neutral adult space and kiddie space here are some further thoughts:

--Regularly rotate out some of the toys you have out now.

--If possible, use the bookcase under the windows as a window bench with some attractive pillows.

--Get a not-too-low adult coffee table to use as a kiddie table in front of the window bench. This can be for arts, crafts, snacks.

Note patterned rug, window bench used for storage.

--Consider getting an Ikea or Besta bookcase turned on its side or some other low bookcase to use as a space divider/storage.

--Coordinate a larger patterned rug, as mentioned, with lively but sophisticated art on your basket wall. The black and cream rug and colorful but subdued art work that suggests a kids' drawing or kids' pencils are a good direction for staying neutral but lively. Here's that combo again:

Ty all. We don’t need the space at night. We have a very large family room.

Love these last suggestions and love the shades idea as well. For reference too, this is just a day when the kids are home and playing with stuff. We do have a pretty good amount of storage. I think we will move that coffee table in kids room out here then but sadly can’t do the window bench even though I love that idea. They’re just cheap Ikea boxes.

For reference that was the wallpaper.

Play areas evolve as kids get older. When they do, then you could have window benches built (or dining sofa) with banquette seating for the kids in that lovely space and move your dining setup at that end of the room. Or just build storage window benches now to use as a play space with dining area to follow.

Personally, I think wallpaper works best when you have at least one uninterrupted wall (no window or door). Another option for color would be window treatments.

I think the Serena and Lily paper you picked is really pretty and would make your house feel more like a home!

I look at a lot of British home websites. I'm used to seeing a UK aesthetic where wallpaper is used in a greater variety of instances - in rooms with lots of windows, in casual family spaces, around toys and kid play places. I see a lot of British homes where wallpaper doesn't feel as precious, doesn't need to be a focal point, nor a moment in a high end, or adult space.

No to the paper, you don't HAVE a good ending point as there is header area over the doors to be dealt with.

You need the toy space for now....and you have your dining table placed in what seems to be a traffic lane TO those doors.

You're in the kiddie stage of life. Add some texture to those windows in a natural woven shade.

I would only consider a wallpaper that was an all over texture.

This is just a peel and stick vinyl wallpaper that would add minimum color and some texture to your room.

Would not recommend wallpapering the entire space you are showing in your photo unless you choose a monotone. I can see where you might want to use wallpaper to achieve texture on the walls. Otherwise, I would suggest paint instead.

Adding fabulous window treatments in that area will be a huge design statement by itself.

Whether paint, or paper.......here's your problem. It's not an "ending"
