Steam Shower. Kerdi vs AquaDefense advice needed
Comments (7)Kerdi is fairly easy. The Kerdi Shower thread that I posted years ago was my first Kerdi install. You have to start somewhere. And if he's a decent and conscientious worker, he might actually be more meticulous than most with this being his first Kerdi installation. Though I haven't touched it in years, RedGard is a topical membrane that's a vapor barrier too. The thing is, with topical membranes on a shower floor I prefer to use a flanged drain instead of using a divot method with a clamping drain. With RedGard, you'd have to use the divot method in order to maintain the weep holes. So Kerdi would work. Or he could use Aquadefense, but only in conjunction with a vapor barrier behind it. Me? I'd use Kerdi....See MoreFinished 1930's Hall Bath: Aqua & White
Comments (37)kristine, Sorry, I just saw your last message. Now that I've had the tub and surround for over a year, I will tell you this (although I'm sure you are done with your project): If I had to do it all over again and I had the extra $$$, I would have gotten a Kohler cast iron bathtub and a tile bath surround. I'm thinking it would have cost an extra grand. But I was already over budget for the bathroom with my kitchen still to do. The bottom of the Sterling tub IS textured and it does require a little bit more elbow grease. But I am still crazy happy with my new bathroom. I love waking to it every morning. Everything has held up well....the beadboard from Nantucket Beadboard is superior! It's designed to be moisture resistance and perfect for bathrooms. It looks as good today as it did last year. No wear and tear at all on the paint....not even near the sink! My quickie purchase $99 faucet from Home Depot, due to being in a hurry....turned out to be one of my favorite things about my bathroom. The faucet is easy to turn on and off and a breeze to keep clean. I'll never again feel the need to do a more vintage looking, wide spread faucet with both hot and cold again. I love the mix of the modern style (sleek) faucet mixed with my vintage choices. Kompy Ps. Since doing this bath, I have found out that the city records for my home is incorrect. My house was built before 1927....probably 1925. I found the original owner's grandson....by CHANCE! In fact, I was doing his kitchen remodel and we got to talking....his grandparents were the first owners of my house and his mom graduated from the H.S. by my house in 1927. The grandson is now in his late 60's or early 70's. He sent me a ton of pictures. AMAZING!...See MoreGrout issue due to drywall dust on brand new floor.
Comments (79)Wow! Just came across this thread. We have Marazzi Chateau Reserve hickory grove and same happened with our grout. I chose a grout that would blend in with tile and also chose this tile bc I wanted a very thin grout line. I have tried everything- tile brush , steam mop. Our contractor didn’t care. I will Reread this thread and try some of the options mentioned. Our tile looks great but the grout drives me crazy. It just looks dirty since it’s a lighter color. Makes me angry when I see it bc I would have never picked such a light color. Luckily - it’s only in our master bath. It’s a shame some contractors are so unscrupulous. I know there are honest ones out there, too bad we didn’t hire one ....See MoreIn2aqua kitchen faucet VS Brizo, Rubinet, California faucets
Comments (64)My attention was drawn back to this thread by someone who liked an earlier post here, and I wanted to update to say that I did move forward with a Brizo articulating faucet purchase in the end and received excellent pricing during a sale at Quality Bath online. The issue with the articulating faucets falling forward has been fixed, so unless you were to order really old stock from a warehouse somewhere, all the new faucets for the last few years feature the fixed joints, and of course, Brizo faucets come with Delta's lifetime warranty. I ordered two of the Brizo faucets in the Brilliance Stainless finish which is PVD stainless steel and among the most durable of finishes available for faucets on the market today. Anything with "Brilliance" in front of the name from Brizo means that it is PVD. Note that Brizo's chrome faucets are merely electroplated, so you'd need to choose a finish that specifies "Brilliance" to get the PVD finish. The articulating faucets from Brizo that feature covered hoses, which is the style I purchased, are all newer releases and so would have the fixed joints no matter where you ordered them. Quality Bath does not stock Brizo in house, so any order you placed from them would come directly from the factory. I'm really happy with this choice and look forward to many years of longevity from the Brizo articulating faucets....See MoreRelated Professionals
