Design theory help: what does counter style do to space?
Comments (23)Thank you so much, greenhaven! I removed photos after initial post but based on the order you stated, I think the first is the one that is still there - with tangerine and green fabric? What is it about andino white that allows 'any direction', vs. the bianco romano? Is it the cream/beige in bianco - and what direction wouldn't it allow? (The andino would be more complicated to get.) I have so many questions! :-) I have spent hours pinning over the months. I have inspiration of 'white cabinets' and of flat panel/shaker, but not too much more specific. I haven't found much color though the link embedded in my last post and reposted here had some -but with counters dark. That's what I found most recently. I guess at this point I want something that looks good in the space and won't have to be undone at a sale, and can accommodate happy colors as accents. :-) Here is a link that might be useful: Better Homes Gardens...See Moreneed help with use of space, decor style...
Comments (35)So pretty! I’m a sucker for toile, though that might be a little much. Is the furniture yours? I think as long as you keep the bones of the house, you can furnish even in ultra-modern. Just a thought: one wall change that I think would be appropriate to the house as well as enhance your living in it would be to, if possible, add a doorway from the foyer to the butler pantry, take out the sink and cabinets there, and add a door from the butler pantry to the back yard. It will be easier to use than the kitchen door when you entertain, allow for nice cross breezes, make The foyer more open, and just look airier. However, the stairs are above that small wall so that might be an issue; you couldn’t take out the wall altogether, but a doorway might work. I imagine the doorway next to the firestove and the built-in in the living room are not original. Maybe not the Firestove, either....See MoreDon't know how to style this livingroom/family room space
Comments (15)decoenthusiaste - Indeed, I found out that the previous owner had used drugs in the house and I believe that made me sick and triggered an autoimmune neuropathy/chemical sensitivity. In fact, so sick, I lost my job last year. It's been a nightmare - If I ever by a home again, I will check for mold, drugs and VOCs. I had to remove all the new hardwood flooring and carpet. I sealed the subfloor and walls. That's why I used the Kahrs flooring and some green pain tinted the BM gray. I had all the vent system cleaned. I have some air cleaners. It's been crazy...I'm just now feeling like I can do something with the inside with regards to decorating. The pictures you posted are exactly my style. The floor is dark but the other colors of Kahrs were very light. I have some Herenke silk Turkish kilms. I will check out the sisal - I looked at jute and people seem to complain they are dusty. d_gw - thank you for your ideas - I wanted to put my three Ikea cabinets on the larger wall but the return duct is there so that is why I have the two alone. The other side, I put the old dresser because a fung shui person once told me that mirrors facing a bed were bad energy so I moved it to the large room. There is enough space on that wall for both a bench and the dresser. I have some African masks, Iranian pictures, etc from my travels that are large and would fit on the wall so I can get that up. How would I place furniture in this sitting area? I see the couch in the picture up against the bookcase. I don't have room for both but maybe a small couch facing the window....See MoreStyling a large wall space
Comments (2)Clock is way too small for wall space. Typically clocks (except grandfather clocks) are no longer used in this type of entertainment space. Room could use some accent color that would also be featured in art, pillows, rugs and various decor. The gold tone you mentioned can be carried through with more modern floor and table amps....See MoreRelated Professionals
