I don't know if I can provide a lot of help but this is what we went with: 4" recessed clear alzak with white trim. We had 14 installed in a not very large kitchen. 2 over the sink; 2 over the peninsula; 4 in front of the pantry area; remaining around the perimeter on the edge of the counter. These are all on dimmers. We also have undercabinet lighting. If you search for my name here it should pull up my kitchen photos. I went to three or four different stores and went with who I felt had the most knowledge, provided the most information, and also understood what I wanted. He knew lighting more than I thought anyone could - and explained it perfectly. There is good info on the Lighting section of this website. Good luck!

Thank you Sheisback! I didn't even realize I could do that. Yeah, I hear you on the chandelier, unfortunately, it is a compromise with my husband. I have to give him something so I can get my candlestick looking sconces which mattered more to me. At least the chandeliers would look better with our stuff than his favorite chandelier. Below is a picture of the items we will have in the living room so far. We are still working on decorating. I guess my description probably wasn't very good. It's more of a hodge podge. We decided a while ago that we wanted it to be a little bit Scottish and a little bit nature and still incorporate my english longbow, my equestrian gear and my husband's fishing poles. Most of my furniture is Queen Anne style. I hope that helps.

I would consider closing in the ceiling rafters and putting in a row of outdoor-rated recessed lighting. You can keep the rustic look by putting in planks that match the rest of the wood. Replace the wall sconces with larger fixtures and add more of them between the windows, too; those look dwarfed in the context of the rest of the space. (These examples are not exactly analogous to your space, but I think you get the idea.)

Keep the can Lights unless the imoead on the area needed to hang new pendants..more lighting the better for kitchen! Beautiful Home!
