These are some very good suggestions, but we don't want to add a rug right now. This is our summer home and considering our two dogs that shed a lot I like the simplicity of the hardwood floors. I ordered the swing arm lamps, and am still considering what size and shape of pillows to get. We sleep on standard pillows and have two king size ones to prop in front of them. Those can be covered in the white cases that go with our white sheets, or I can search for colored cases or shams for them. Then, thinking of how small the room is and knowing they will end up on the floor at night, I would like just one or two pillows for the shot of color the bed needs. I still am thinking about this fabric I found the other day. I like the colors and the playful Chinoiserie pattern which goes well with all the Asian art in the rest of the house. Having it made up at Calico was somewhat pricey, but a few Etsy shops seem to offer it, too, so I just need to decide if I can get by with one long rectangle or need a couple of squares. Once this is decided I'll look into a throw or something for the foot of the bed.

I am 100% with you. I personally loath dust and so I do not have a rug under my bed. I have designed large rugs in a bedroom for clients based on preferences. Truth is, small rugs on a hardwood floor in a bedroom are timeless. In fact, big stuffed down comforters are going away with bedspreads and the winter blanket making a come back. So the small rug look is a perfect accompaniment. They do not need to match (more interesting if they don't) but they do need to feel like a family. If you did three rugs: one on both sides of the bed can match with a third at the end different but must work with the two in color and texture/pattern. Or all three can be different. Or you can have one as shown below. They need not all be the same size in width or length either. Enjoy and have fun!

Do you have any table or floor lamps in your living room? You need to add more layers of lighting in all rooms, not just can/recessed lights. Did you have lamps on the nightstands when you looked at the Accessible Beige swatches? My nightstand lamps have two bulbs each for lots of light. And you might want to consider covering more of the dark floor, for example in the dining room and entry hall, with lighter rugs, as in the living room. A can of paint is cheaper than an in-home consultation. Paint an entire wall in the bedroom and in the living room and live with it for a week, in all sorts of light. Don't go by swatches, even large ones, and you also can't judge properly with a swatch on top of your current color. When you have a room with doors and windows like yours, it does make arranging furniture difficult. Most people are not using dressers anymore. Walk in closets with organizers help eliminate bigger furniture. Is your closet of a good size? You might be able to eliminate a dresser? I would put a small bench at the foot of the bed, not chairs. Chairs would be too large. Reduce the amount of furniture in the room and you will enjoy it more. Might be time to go through everything and make sure you get rid of those things you haven't used in a couple of years, donate them or pitch out! You might be amazed. Good luck. Before you do much else, go through that exercise, get the furniture in the best arrangement possible and then think about colors, walls, etc.
