if you are serious about the soapstone you might be well served by visiting the slabs available . there are variations of the veins I've seen which can be whites or creams. Your lighting is a factor / your floors are a factor. Is this an L shape perimeter w island? .I'm guessing .....but soapstone is a statement so Id have a look if you havent already. You dont want any wood stained cabinetry...? all painted? dont get too far ahead w paint colors but checking out the soapstone for best tilts of paint shades can help to a degree. Not sure about taupe cabinets w soapstone and blue green island..... ? Post your plan / get feedback on that.

Really where are pictures of the space at least and ideally pics of the surrounding rooms too . I assume nothing is changing in the kitchen except colors ??? Before choosing colors my advice is do the lighting I like all LED 4000K but 3500K works too. Why are you painting the cabinets, are they in bad shape? I have trully never seen DIY cabinets painted that last for long so I hesitate to even advise color for them so pics are a must .

I appreciate each and every one of your valuable comments and pics to follow. I left out an important variable for you: I’m redoing walls and trim as well. Hoping to color drench with a neutral. Also I have high ceilings if that means anything. So basically nothing is staying and I have both the freedom and the challenge of starting from
Scratch!

PS—One potential complication is that you can view my dining room through a swing French door from kitchen all of which will still have a cherry/mahogany stained maple trim (crown and baseboard and wainscoting) until I get the funds together to do a massive painting. I do love the look of stained wood, but I’m committed to the warmth of warmer wood tones and not so much the popular white oak or even walnut that’s trending now.

The cabinets are going and a new kitchen from scratch or just colors I am a bit confused.

Not the only important variable you left out. Post up pictures if you truly want advice as context is key.

A from scratch renovation as part of a great room space. Things can be changed. Wide all base cabinets are recommended, for example. A lighting plan with task and ambient lighting and possibly accent fixtures is an option.

Colors are a few steps down the line. A best function layout can make your reno very positive. Post a to scale layout with readable dimensions. You can use graph paper with each square 6 inches. I apologize for Patricia yelling at you. Post however you like.

Thank you, Dan. Below you will find pics of current very dated kitchen and renderings of proposed new kitchen hen. I am working with a general contractor. The new layout—

1. Moves my refrigerator to the left of the French door

2). Calls for a 36 in new Classic Hallman range

3). No longer has a central island. When I referred to island in earlier post it was for the purpose of simplification. The sage green if I do it will be on the wall on either side of the door to parlor.

4). We are considering making the peninsula into a mobile island but it would mostly dock where it is as a peninsula. Ceiling will probably stay pure white.

Out with the old and in with the new.

Only things committed to in family room are couch/chair and art above fireplace.

I am sorry, but I still have questions.

1. have you considered consulting with a kitchen designer? The reason I ask is because GCs are not kitchen designers and we see a lot of posts where someone really missed the opportunity to add functionality when renovating their kitchens. I am seeing two things right off the bat that could be improved. Drawers instead of cabinet lowers allow much better organization and storage options. A blind corner cabinet wastes valuable space. Without seeing the entire plan it is hard to know what else could be improved.

2. Have you addressed the floors? I might have missed something, but I don't see if you are keeping the floors, refinishing the floors or replacing the floors.

3. Will the fireplace be staying as is or is it being renovated?

4. Can you provide a larger, clearer picture of the art above the fireplace?

It may be a great inspiration for color selection.

5. Is the chair the same color as the sofa and is the sofa truly blue - does not look very blue in the photo - looks brown except for the one area right under the window which looks gray/blue gray.

Jennifer! Thank you for sticking with me. I am using a design person (shouldn’t have said GC). Those cabinets will have pull out drawers. There’s a reason they need to be cabinets from her design perspective but I forget what it is. The corner will have that LeMars (?sp) apparatus. Will include better pics of couch which is indeed a gray blue. And closer shot of art. I obviously picked that piece knowing I was to be changing paint color shortly. 🤣. I absolutely hate my original fireplace. That will all be painted too but I cannot see doing away with the brick. Looking at mantel surrounds on eBay but one room at a time!!

I don’t feel comfortable posting the blueprints feel as though proprietary. No elevations (though funny you should ask original plan was sunken family room. Floors are an old red oak that will be refinished at the end of the process. Thank you.

Victorian homes didn’t really have great rooms, they used various methods to separate larger spaces while maximizing utility. Restored is a TV renovation show that you can stream on Max if you’d like to see what a restored Victorian kitchen can look like. Best of luck to you.

LOL. my other concerns are the “antique white” finish of the Hallman range that hasn’t arrived yet and I’m really starting to get nervous about fooling around with a heavily present mahogany wood stain throughout the house. If I go to market with this home, I fear it’ll really impact my ability to sell having one room without it at all and the rest of the home in original

I went to your idea books and love the green kitchen for your space . For me thta green is very neutral and work well in your type od style you want. I do think the LR is cluttered and both the art and the TV way too high . KDs are woth the money to d the best with the space you have, I see what look slike an island now so not sure whay the fridgge would go on the left of the french door and the island a barrier to go from fridge to sink so I really need the floor plan posted here you can do it yourself no issues use graph paper show every measurement , window , doorway all marked clearly and posted in jpeg format here in a comment it is trully the only way to get help

I think you might want to google Hallman ranges. The company Hallman, just announced that they went out of business earlier this month. You may want to reach out to your credit card company to look into a charge back. Good Luck

Interesting. I had a brief suspicion about that but I guess excitement quickly overcame my common sense. No matter. I’ve appreciated and learned from all of these comments and welcome any further discussion.

And…again being new to posting…I so appreciate the guidance. I’ll up my game with possible plans etc. It’s not that I don’t appreciate all of these complimentary expert opinions; however, I’m also paying big bucks for a kitchen design company so I figured I’d focus in on their weakest link which I presume to be the decorative aspect of things. You select a wall color based on the color of the flooring, cabinets, countertop and backsplash.

Paint is the least expensive element with the most choices, so that should be the last item selected.

I have a pink brick fireplace, a purple, red and green slate floor. The wall color I selected looks very neutral in my home. It would look extremely pink in most homes.

On the other hand, Revere Pewter, which is often considered a color that will go with everything looks like green mud on my walls.

It isn't about picking a color, it is about picking a coordinated color scheme. All the parts have to work together.
