Kitchens Design Dilemma

mixing wood tones in kitchen

I have teak stained baseboards and 6 panel doors throughout my house, the stain was Pratt and Lambert teak from the 90’s. Name is teak but it is reddish golden oak. We are redoing the kitchen and I can’t change out the trim and doors or paint them. I do not want painted cabinets if I can avoid it. What color wood cabinets wouldn’t look bad with the trim? I love white oak but I’m not sure how that would all look together. Thanks.

What is the flooring in the kitchen?

I think you need to stay in the warm tones for a finish but you can consider different actual woods.

They look kind of green in the photo but are a cream and beige porcelain tile. We are not changing it out.

There is also a ReStore on 242 E of 45 outside The Woodlands and another in Conroe. There may be more. Sounds like you are on the SW side -- maybe near the Meyerland area? I grew up not far from there. Look for the size and finish fan you need, then buy LED bulbs and dimmers for them. When Harvey hit, I was helping my sister ready her former home for a post-divorce sale. We installed 8 fans and 5 of them were Hunter nickel or stainless finish with with wood blades (I think the blades were reversible with a midtone and a dark wood finish) bought at Lowe's. Hers were something like this https://www.lowes.com/pd/Hunter-Waldon-5-Minute-Fan-52-in-Brushed-Nickel-Indoor-Downrod-Or-Close-Mount-Ceiling-Fan-with-Light-Kit/4332172 but this one might be more in keeping with your MCM and it comes with a remote. https://www.lowes.com/pd/Kichler-52-in-Nickel-Indoor-Downrod-Mount-Ceiling-Fan-with-Light-Kit-and-Remote/999919012. Sorry I couldn't get the links to work, but hope that helps. I think medium to dark wood tones would look good with a grey floor and walls. I would avoid going too light and you can certainly mix wood tones, though most pIeople go within a light to medium range or medium to dark range or use different tones in different rooms. Formica or IKEA butcher block sound like a great way to get the most bang for your buck, though I will mention that we did the kids' bathrooms with prefab granite and 8-10 foot lengths started around $150-200. If you just have straight runs and are happy with a rolled edge, that can work.

Get the table and do the whole room as you would without focusing on this piece, that won't stay in your home anyway. Sometimes, having a piece that is "off" actually ends up working in the space. Your floors are also a warm tone. ( only one of your photos posted, so not sure what 2 middle samples you're referring to)

Hi, Its generally a good idea to keep your wood tones consistent throughout your home. For example, I have natural maple and natural cherry pieces in my home that have warm tones and look great together. With that said, there is no harm in “breaking the rules” and here’s a couple of great articles that explain how to do it right. My second comment is everything is priced high right now. I would wait. There is a lot of furniture for sale in every state as the largest move is taking place in the USA Homes are selling with furniture, people are selling what they do not want to move. Ebay Craig's list Next door Neighbor Chairrish 1st dibs and local shops have a large assortment. Look around you might find something or work with what you have. Prices are starting to settle back down. I think your room is lovely A dining room is where the family will never notice what the colors are, only the day. The fun, the silliness and Mom's favorite dish being served. Enjoy it all

I have honey oak cabinets I’m getting rid of. I like rift and quartersawn oak but they are expensive and not environmentally friendly so I doubt I’d get those. Maple is too blah for me.

I have golden oak trim and 6 panel doors doors throughout my house. When I remodeled my kitchen 12 years ago, I used natural cherry/clear coat (no stain) cabinets.

Cherry does darken a bit over time. The pictures below were taken recently so that is as dark as they will be.

I agree with Beverly that a warm wood tone is needed with the golden oak that you have. If you would go with cherry I recommend that you use select cherry to get a more uniform look with minimal sap wood.

European Oak doesn't have the open grain of white or red oak.

But. You only have pictures of doors and trim.

Show the entire kitchen ? All angles? Do you love the layout, its super convenient? Nothing against cherry, other than it HAS done a major fade away in popularity, and yes wood is back in a big way, but not cherry in cabinetry , not flooring either.

Money spent should get you wow I love it. Can you post more pics? You never know....
