RIP a song that touched our hearts

Jesse Colin Young, the melodic force behind The Youngbloods’ call to unity, “Get Together,” has passed away at 83 in his South Carolina home, leaving behind a legacy that sounds a lot like the hopeful strum of a guitar at a peace rally. Best known for his gentle exhortation to “smile on your brother,” Young’s voice became a symbol of 60s idealism in a track that would resurface as a beacon during America’s tumultuous Vietnam years. Beyond his anthem for brotherhood, Young’s career spanned over five decades, filled with musical ventures that explored the corners of folk, rock, and blues, punctuated by a spirited revival in his later years. To the end, he never stopped believing in the power of song—or the necessity of love, making “Get Together” not just a performance piece but a lived creed.

Michelle; what a terrible thing to hear about Jazmyn passing away, leaving you behind with a sad heart and a lonely home. You'll never regret it----you may have some really sad days and nights, but, you know in your heart you did the RIGHT thing. The love and respect you had for her will make a world of difference in how long your pain lasts---not the lonliness; the pain. I can only join the group in trying to make it a little better for you. Thanks for sharing ttodd. I always love taking our pets to be blessed in honor of my favorite Saint, St. Francis of Assisi. It is a bit of an ordeal, but I never miss the blessing, as over the years many of our pets have needed all of the "help" they could get. It was something my DD was so very into as a little one. I can remember one year being a bit aggravated at not being able to find one of the cat carriers, suggesting that only two of the three cats could go. She was devasted. I went to the big box pet place and bought a cardboard pet carrier and took everyone. Thanks for reminding me of the memory.

Those that do not know Finneas is BillieEilish brother... He wrote about this song... Finneas: "I wrote this song in June after spending the day at a protest in Downtown LA, filled with hope with the prospect that millions of people were coming together from all over the world to fight against institutionalized racism and inequality. During that time, I’d also been following Amanda Kloots as she documented her husband Nick Cordero’s time in the ICU while in a coma after being admitted for COVID-19. Imagining her sitting by his side, waiting, hopeful for him to wake up, it got me thinking about all the millions of people, all over the world, who also have loved ones, parents, children and extended family members going through the same thing. Fighting this horrific virus. Some will over-come and wake up again, while others, tragically may not. This song is dedicated to all who have had to endure this year. I hope this song can offer some sort of comfort to those who may need it."

Our newspaper last night had a front page photo taken from the back of a man waving goodbye to his precious 2-year-old son and wife from a train platform in Kyiv. The little one was dressed in blue and yellow, excited to be on a train and waving to his papa.

My then teenage sister sat next to him on a plane in the 70s. We were all so jealous! 😀

His songs were so lovely and lyrical. I recall going to see him in concert back in the 70s.

I read that he lost his entire studio to a terrible fire years ago. I believe it was the home described in his song Ridgetop.

Although I'm sorry to learn this, I'm also grateful to you for sharing the news. He did leave a lasting legacy of beauty, peace, and hope. I can still hear and hum his iconic melodies, and they are as lovely as ever. Thanks for letting us know.
