Easter Baskets
Comments (18)I too was going to suggest an alternative "basket". Possibly a nice basket they can use for storage, or perhaps a plastic tote? Backpack, fannypack, computer bag, etc. You can decorate it anyway you like. There's also the reuseable bags from stores they shop which is a gift that keeps giving if they get credit each time they use them. Otherwise, they take up virtually no room and can be used for a myriad of things. I really like your idea of the necessities and functional things. Especially for someone whose funds might be tight. And treats vary by person too. Perhaps some beef jerky, cheese, or a bottle of wine, etc, would be more appreciated than sweets to some. The spirit (no pun intended) is there. A friend of mine each year would give his grandmother a small but good ham, a small loaf of bakery/special bread, some of her favorite fresh veggies and a dessert of some sort. Sized in amounts she could handle with just a few leftovers if any. She loved to cook but Social Security was her sole income so some things like these were luxuries to her. She was thrilled at the thoughtfulness. Each person is different. Perhaps a prepaid phone card and your phone # on it? As a hint! ;) Gas card, prepaid Visa/MC will get used and appreciated. Are there any spices they like but don't buy? Keep your mind, eyes and ears open for things they want and need....See MoreEaster basket ideas
Comments (19)We don't celebrate easter, but we do celebrate spring with a basket of goodies, and this year my freshman in college is getting dark chocolate and caramels, a bag of pistachios (tradition), a small bag of jelly belly jellybeans (another tradition), a pair of bright, springy leggings, a "resist" t-shirt, several "resist" stickers for her laptop (they are all about the laptop stickers at her college), a book on her idol, Ruth Bader Ginsberg (who graduated from the same college my DD attends and is a member of the sorority my DD just joined), a pair of earbuds and a new charger (yeah, her too). Thanks to this thread I'm going to add some fun socks, Tide to go pen and a Dunkin Donuts gift card, great ideas here, thanks, all....See MoreAny unique/clever ideas for themed baskets?
Comments (27)We had some baskets that got rather large -- like an outdoor grill and the grilling things to go with it, a gift wrap station with paper, bags, scissors, tape, ribbon and gift tags all in one place and some other outdoor fishing/camping things. If kids are in the mix, any kind of electronic game or reader was always bvery popular. Themed dinners -- both a basket with items to make a Mexican or Italian meal ( such as pasta, jarred sauce, breadsticks, things to make a salad, cookies for dessert and such). If these are silent auction baskets, a variation was to have someone host a dinner for a certain number of people or couples and the top bidders in that number (usually 8 or 10) or the first of that number to sign up automatically won -- so a dinner for 10 people paying $25 or $50 per person will have a set yield of $250 or $500. The cook may be the donor or a pro. At the elementary school, the princiap or a favorite teacher might be the cook or honored guest. You'de be amazed how excited kids could get to have ice cream, pizza, donuts or a burger with someone they only see at school. Those were very popular and you can adapt the idea to your group. I would try to think about the upcoming holidays since you are in November. What can you put together than makes Thanksgiving or Christmas easier or that would make for good gifts. If you did the wrapping basket, do more holiday themed tthan birthday and all-occasion. Wreaths, candles, or other decorations might do well. Or holiday themed entertaining....See MoreEaster baskets?
Comments (21)We don't even celebrate Easter religiously, and my dd always got a basket with some good quality candy (mama don't like cheap chocolate, heh heh), a book or 3, some fun little items, socks, always an item of summer clothing, but the most fun was that we hid the basket in the house and had a series of clues she had to go through to find it; "I'm can be hot but usually I'm not" (the oven), "I'm a plant with blooms to wow the holes in your cranium, I'm a ________", etc. We used to make her go through about 10 clues before she got the one that led to the basket. It was fun and yes, it is absolutely pathetic that I can remember some of the rhymes I wrote and can't recall important info, like sending in my car registration. She's now a sophomore in college and still likes to find her clues, all the while protesting loudly, of course....See MoreRelated Professionals
