Small Kitchen: need 30 inch wide fridge counter-depth
Comments (5)This is hard to resolve. In the far distant future, kitchens will have one wall with a deep counter, i.e. 28" or 30" deep. Not today. Too many people cutting a 4' by 8' sheet in half to make "standard" size cabinetry.... Are you aware of Cabinet depth and Counter depth ? These are two different terms for what you want. One meaning the entire appliance including door is flush with your 24" deep counter -- but that loses So Much space I wouldn't recommend it to anyone. Another term means the box before the door is 24" deep, and a thin door adds another 2 or 3 inches. If your layout lets you use a French Door fridge without making you open both doors all the time, you have one more option and a more regular depth. The minute you look at a shallower depth French-door fridge you have to spend $500 more just for a basic model. French-door fridge-bottom-freezers LG and another brand too, but I forget which one it is right now. Single door fridge-bottom-freezers that are not as deep as Amana Whirlpool etc : Miele KF1801 (84" tall). Summit FFBF285SS 26" deep (75" tall). Only 28" wide so the door doesn't need as much space as a 30" door. Liebherr has a couple. Fisher Paykel is about 31" wide and 26" deep Consider cutting into the wall to make a recess to stick the back of the fridge into. -David...See MoreIs 30' fridge too small for urban small kitchen?
Comments (9)You don't know what family life is like. No one can tell you. What we can tell you is that what you think your lifestyle is will change in ways that you can't anticipate when your child is born. Additionally, remodelling is very stressful. It's really not a great thing to undertake with a hard deadline, and you don't want to have no kitchen when the baby arrives. If you have a lot of time, and a good, full service firm handling all of your details, and they expect to be finished several months before the baby, then go for it. Otherwise, have a really serious talk with your wife and make sure that she's comfortable with this whole redo right now. It concerns me that it's you, not she, asking the questions. If that's your way of doing division of labor, fine, but if this is your project, not hers, please, please talk to her some more and make sure she really really really wants to do it. The baby is enough of a stressor without a kitchen remodel. I wouldn't go too far off of what is standard in your neighborhood if you really think you'll be moving within five years. Toronto is very different from where I live (SoCal), so I won't speculate on the expectations there, but where I live, a 36" fridge is expected by buyers (bigger if sxs), but built-in trumps freestanding. In a small apartment, smaller is fine, but in a 2000 sf home, not so much. If what's there now is dreadful, and they can just plunk in a wonderful Leicht kitchen will be quick and easy (doubtful), and you don't care what you have to spend to get there, that's fine. If it's workable as is, and you really expect to move in five years, it's not really worth remodelling at a time when so much else in your lives is changing. From a purely design/aesthetics point of view, since you asked, either size fridge is fine. Built-in is always going to be less obtrusive than free standing. You really don't know what your needs will be when you have a baby, however, and you may be unnecessarily limiting yourself....See MoreFinished kitchen - small low to mid-range
Comments (37)Wow. You took a "mom" kitchen and made it into a showpiece. I don't know how to explain that, but you went from something very well-loved and lived in, to something that's just elegant and calm. Perhaps it's my love of the lack of visual clutter, but I can tell you I could sit with you there and drink coffee (or wine) without stressing. Love the island and seating, love the ceiling high, tall cabinets. Love the color. Very restful. And still functional! Oh! I don't see the microwave over the stove much these days and I still think it's a very smart use of space. Beautiful pieces! Enjoy!...See MoreSmall fridge/no freezer in kitchen
Comments (2)I would definitely want some freezer space in the kitchen. I'm looking at the 24 inch LG refrigerator for our small kitchen remodel. I put it in a small kitchen in a previous house and was super happy with it. It's shorter than any other counter depth small refrigerator I have found which means some more cabinet storage above. It's also cheaper. It never came in true stainless though and it looks to me like the grey faux stainless has been discontinued? I'm not seeing it available on line anyway. So it is limited to white....See MoreRelated Professionals
