Height of pictures

Should the pictures on the left of the mirror lift to align with the top of the spear frame? should the pictures on the right stay aligned with the top of the mirror or lift to the heght of the spear frame top?

I'm no minimalist, but that is all too much stuff and some of the things don't really complement each other. I would either do art or stuff above the cabinets and not both.

Sorry either the stuff all over the top or the art but not both. Really art is best when hung to have the center of the art at eye level so those would be too high as show them so find a wall. I am a firm believer in less is more in decor so one piece on each cabi net would be all I would do Infact since you like a bit of eye clutter why not so a"gallery" wall on that large wall opposite the mirror.

Mine is recessed into the ceiling and is basically just a hole that goes into a chimney like exhaust in the roof. It's about 66" from the top of the stove. I had a similar one in Culver City in a second floor apartment, and doves would sit on the chimney and coo. It sounded like they were inside my kitchen, and it took me the longest time to figure out where they actually were. I haven't felt the need for a hood, but if I burn something (which is rare), I have to get a floor standing fan and have it blow the smoke out the window or out the door in the adjoining laundry room. When I lived in Austin, I had a hole in the kitchen wall behind the stove, but at least it had a fan in it. What I have now has no fan. I'm not sure what it would be like to have a hood, since I can't remember having one. I have a picture of my kitchen in Austin somewhere, but I don't know exactly where. I'll try to look for it. Lars

Full Height Backsplash - Pictures needed

The plants typically used for screening - trees (often evergreen) and large shrubs - never really stop growing. And fast growing trees never really stop growing rather rapidly :-) So that 6-8 footer at the nursery could eventually be 35' or more in height and almost as wide. IOW, they get BIG!! In fact, the only difference between a "dwarf" conifer and a regular sized one is rate of growth.........if conditions are right, eventually that dwarf could become much larger than what is typical on the tags and in literature. For example. it is not unusual to see a dwarf Alberta spruce, normally a tiny little thing around a foot or so tall at the nursery, grow to be 12-15' tall in time and with a significant spread. Also, many fast growing trees display unfavorable growth characteristics like weak wood, invasive root systems and malformed branch angles that shorten their lifespans and create garden liabilities. This is a pretty well recognized phenomenon and I'm pretty sure that was what was meant by being "garden gorillas"! btw, there are also very cold hardy forms of clumping bamboo - any of the Fargesia species - that can achieve significant height yet do not spread aggressively. They are more like very large ornamental grasses with a slowly enlarging base and require no root barrier or rhizome control :-)

Pretty room. I'd move the black bookcase to the opposite corner away from the window (where your baby chair is located). In its old place, comsider a floor plant, like a fiddle leaf fig - examples below, I don't t think this room needs two more short bookcases /furniture pieces. Why a floor plant? The added cool greenery will offer a beautiful contrast to your red warm-toned rug. I see you have one plant on the mantle, but it isn't enough to give the contrast that's needed.

the reflection in the mirror looks like you have a blank wall on the other side of the room, why not group all your framed art together for a statement and make the singular pieces a separate display.

I like a layered look, but this feels like a thrift store! It is is too croweded and seems like some nice pieces of art and objects are getting cluttered together. What other walls can you hang the art on?

You are standing on the other side of the room to see art above a cupboard. The art is small enough where you're standing no one can really get a focused look at it. What's the point? If you want something over there I would keep the stuff and remove the art to a place it can be enjoyed. But to your question yes all frames should be the height of the mirror or all frames a bit above. The right side looks sleek and cohesive the left not. Arrange all frames so the overall balance matches.

As mentioned by others, you have too many small items on display. I suggest you group some pictures in similar frames above the buffet and perhaps a small pottery collection on one tall cabinet and a plant on the other.

With the style of your furnishings and the brushed finish on the hardware, your choice of a brass framed mirror seems to totally wrong for the room.
