Kitchens Flooring Design Dilemma

Advice on flooring!

We are planning on remodeling our kitchen as thifty as possible and durable with our 60lb dog (very hard to do). We intially found a hickory flooring we wanted and thought it would look good with the black stained shaker cabinets we selected, but they sold out. Our current and cheapest option is a Brazilian cherry hardwood. i'm worried that the floor will look dated. The new hardwood would be in the family room, living room, formal dining room and run through the kitchen. I've attached a picture of our most recent kitchen layout for an idea (we are doing all the cabinets in the black stain). Also, there's a picture of the cabinet color with one of the cherry samples they gave us and some inspiration photos. Our house is traditional with bits of modern so we don't want anything too trendy. Let me know your thoughts!

I think you are lucky you can't get the hickory, as a whole it is very busy.

Brazilian cherry may show a lot of dust and dog hair. It's a personal decision. Get what you are drawn to, budget wise and looks.

sturdy yes, paws and claws need to taken into consideration.

I have always found that a medium tone flooring works best with dog hair and dust.

You have a photo of a sample board with two dark boards and two light boards. Are those two options or are they showing the range within a box?

Our living room needs to be repainted, but has vaulted ceilings and connects to the foyer and hall (the staircase is painted the same color too). I'm thinking SW Pure White like other areas of the house, but I'm not sure. I also need to replace the old, dirty carpet on the stairs and floor, but I have no idea what to put in. +1 on keeping the orientation. I like it as is, and I don't know if you needed it to be parallel to the island to accentuate the long length from the front door to the fireplace. One other thing of note that I notice, what looks like to me, is the baseboard is using a (door/window) casing profile. That means that when you put your shoe molding down, the height will probably be above the first reveal and not sit flush against it either.

Engineered hardwood is an option. European Oak is currently widely available because of the closed grain and light tone finished matte. The least expensive direct sale example I'm aware of is $5.50. Collections - Silvan Hardwood - Flooret Made in Swedan with a thin 0.6mim hardwood layer that you won't be able to sand much. I think this could go with your cabinets and built-ins.

Yes, it’s showing the dark and light range for that cherry flooring.

I think your floors will be pretty. We went with hickory, but i honestly dont think good wood floors ever look dated.

That is a lot of orange covering most of your house. Is this were you want to save on the budget and have to live with that floor color for the next 20 years?

The first two pictures are the cherry. The hickory sold out. I’m worried the cherry will darken and look more red/orange.

dont they have your standard 3 in oak with a medium stain?

Nothing at the price of the cherry and my 60lb dog would destroy the oak. Currently we have oak and just him shifting his weight causes damage

I would consider LVP. Lots to choose from. Six years ago we used Coretec LVP. Dogs, dragging furniture across , dropping things on it, it still looks like new.

There are now laminates look really good.

Oak is harder than cherry. If your dog damages your current oak floors, why won’t he damage your new cherry floors?

Seems like claw trimming should become a part of your dog care routine like giving him a bath. A 60lb. dog can be a non-issue if you keep him trimmed. What is the price range you're working within? I have never seen installed BC that I liked. Over time it seems to get oranger or redder. It isn't very versatile, meaning it's hard to decorate around. I also thought it went out of fashion 15-20 years ago. I think @dan1888 gave you some good suggestions.
