What Backsplash Options Work Best?
Comments (12)Hi, thanks for your feedback. I have added a few more pictures of option #s 2, 3, & 4. Option 2 option 3 option 4 Breezygirl, I too like the marble but I don't want to make it too busy. I was hoping that there might be support for that little mosaic, but this input really helps. Remodelfla, I love the look of the frosted glass example I have, it almost perfectly matches my wall color which is very light greenish gray. I am thinking that it is too contemporary, but I could be just holding back! Francoise47, I am striving for timelessness in this kitchen. This remodel has been a long time coming and will be a long time til the next. Option #4 is a favorite of mine because of the subtle style. And MrsHanson I really appreciate your take on #2, can you tell me more about why you would not go with #2? CeltinNE thanks for your comment, the soapstone is something I have wanted for 10 years ever since I first saw it in a nice causal restaurant in Ames, Iowa. I recently asked one of the owners how it has held up. He is very happy with it. He would not use it in the restroom lavatory sinks again, they have streaked. Theirs was out of a Vermont company and it is soft. They have it installed in the restrooms as sink and counter, at the bar counter and behind the bar, and at the coffee bar area both the customer bar and behind the bar. They keep it oiled. Oh, and the color of my paint is BenMoore "Titanium" a very light gray green. Looks great in my north facing room....See MoreKitchen cabinet paint colors to go with granite and tile backsplash?
Comments (0)Not a fan of this granite but willing to live with it IF I can get lighter painted cabinets. Need to replace all doors as some are broken. Hardware too. Will hire a pro to paint. Will change wall color too, once cabinet color is sorted out. Kitchen faces east with lots of windows, so very bright/light. Lots of ceiling lights. Walnut trim throughout the house which is staying. Tile floor is beige/sand color. Doors have been routed in a u-shape to accept hinges. Can’t change the hardware and keep the doors without major woodwork repairs to each door. New doors will allow more options. What color to paint cabinets first, then walls. Buttercream? Off White? Again, the countertops are very dominant. Suggestions?...See MoreBaltic brown granite and cabinet color options
Comments (3)It's honestly rather refreshing to see someone who wants a variation on kitchen color aside from the ubiquitous white. First, check out this awesome site for inspiration on colored kitchens: https://www.atticmag.com/category/kit/ Then consider whether a new countertop might help you meet your goals. Since you are leaning toward the green family, you could do a light marble-look quartz or white Corian and take the cabinets any direction you wanted. I particularly like the Tranquility and Healing Aloe colors from Benjamin Moore as a suggestion for starters. The countertop space you have is not so large that it would be cost-prohibitive to do this if you really wanted to take your kitchen a new direction. While you could definitely work with the granite you have, it is limiting you in terms of other colors with which to pair it. I think you'd find black cabinets to be overwhelming in the space and absorb more light than you expect. If you do select a replacement countertop option to expand your cabinet color choices, I would opt for a fully-tiled backsplash from the counters up to the wall cabinets. Short backsplashes totally have their places, even in modern renovations, but your configuration lends itself to a fluid look that would be best achieved with a homogenous backsplash area. If you decide to tackle painting the cabinets yourself, it's perhaps more within reach than you might think. I've been following a Facebook group that has a lot of painting pros regularly commenting. Options like the waterborne Envirolak paint or INSL-X Cabinet Coat from Benjamin Moore make it possible for you to do a decent, durable job of recoating yourself if you so desire. Fine Paints of Europe puts out some beautiful enamels that can make your cabinets look like Christopher Peacock finishes if you want. They are enamel paints and require an experienced professional to apply with strict dust-control measures in place, but that finish is gorgeous. I'd stick with waterborne paints if you want to do a lighter color, but enamel is fine if you have a more saturated color since enamel tends to yellow in time due to the oil content. I'd recommend joining this group if you are the least bit interested in that approach: https://www.facebook.com/groups/DIY cabinet refinishing...See MoreWhat Cabinet paint colors works best with Colonial White granite?
Comments (9)Okay, so don’t worry about the rest until you narrow down your cabinet paint color. Backsplash comes last. Hardware and faucet are the jewelry of your space and you can really choose just about anything. I‘d start by getting much larger swatches of the paint colors you’re considering and tape them to your cabinets. Look at them at all different times of day and in all different types of light. You’ll start to eliminate based on what you see. Paint is very difficult to choose online because our monitors all look different than what you are seeing inside your house. Also, what does the rest of your house look like? You mentioned that some paints look a little too green and I’d agree, but not necessarily a bad thing. Do you have green in the rest of your house? Is the rest of your house greige? Is it a blank canvas? Ultimately, what do YOU like?...See MoreRelated Professionals
