Benjamin moore smoke vs pale smoke

Having a hard time deciding between smoke and pale smoke. I like that smoke is bluer but it is also darker. I am leaning towards the lighter pale smoke but would prefer the blueness of the smoke .So I'm thinking of asking the paint store to do smoke at 50%.Is that a good idea or just go with the pale smoke? This is.
For a bathroom remodel, the floors are a black & white basket weave and pretty much. Everything will be white and Chrome.
One small west facing window so it doesn't get tons of light

Buy sticker samples from Samplize. Put on the wall (best if wall is primed white first so that the existing wall color does not distort/change the way you perceive the color samples) - compare the two colors at different times of the day, with lights on vs no lights, and move the samples around as colors can look different on one wall vs another.

they are both plenty dark for a small room with no natural light.

cutting paint % is fine when you get all the paint you need mixed by the same person(they have their own way of mixing) and mixed together in a large bucket... But if you run short and need a bit more mixed, you may run into a color change.

Have you sampled the colors in the room in all light?

I don't have photos of my kitchen yet (coming soon, I'm hoping!), but here are my 2 inspiration photos. I, too, was apprehensive about putting blue in my kitchen because I kept thinking it would read "bathroom" color. After experimenting with blueish green, I decided to stay true to my inspiration photos and went with a blue backsplash with gray tones in it. I think it will look great and if anything, somewhat unique because I still don't see many blue kitchens yet. My kitchen wall color (not a lot of bare wall, though) is BM Revere Pewter, plays off the neutral in the rest of the house and goes well with my tiles without being too matchy-matchy. Pure Neutral White, Gray and Black are colors where when a perfectly balanced light is shined on the object every color is equally absorbed or reflected. Now we have all the rest - What if your white, gray or black isn't perfectly neutral? One color or a few colors have stronger presence than the other colors and we see that color. What if your light isn't perfectly balanced? If the light is yellow it will make perfectly neutral white or gray appear yellow, if it is green, blue, violet or red it will make the neutral appear the color of the light (remember as kids placing colored cellophane over a light to make different colors? What if everything is in perfect balance, but you have some other dominant color in the space? Our rods will see the complementary color. https://www.animations.physics.unsw.edu.au/jw/light/complementary-colours.htm There is also one other factor to consider - the psychology of the color gray. We subconsciously relate blue and gray. When we are sad, we say we are blue, but in actuality we aren't blue, we are seeing less color. Dopamine is a neurotransmitter that helps us see color, makes the rods and cones more active. When we are depressed they are less active and nothing looks as bright or vibrant, everything is more gray. But we don't say I feel gray today, we say I feel blue today. The difference between brown and gray is that there is more yellow/orange/red in browns/tans. If you have to mix brown or gray from primary colors, both take all three primaries, just in different proportions. If you add more blues/greens/purples we don't have a new color - we still call it gray, but now we qualify the gray as blue gray, green gray, violet gray. If you are feeling that a gray is too blue, but still want a true gray (not a greige, beige, taupe ) you want to pick a gray that is close to the original color but one or two steps away from blue. The nice thing is that the paint companies really help us out here. 2132-60 is bluer than 2133-60 and 2134-60. Since you are close and like the color you don't have to jump from blue gray to yellow brown gray greige. You simply have to go a bit away from gray toward green. I would test 2134-60 Whitestone next. 2137-60 Gray Owl is a bit more green, but still staying firmly in the gray green family and not moving into the the more beige gray sandy colors that you don't like. Hi - these 2 colours sit increasingly further clockwise on the Color Strategist Wheel, away from Pale Oak. They will likely apoear a a little cooler by comparison. So in your setting, they are somewhat less likely to shift quite as pinky-purple. Sometimes, just moving a few degrees can make a difference, sometimes you may have to move a whole lot further to mitigate colour shift. These are a both a touch darker (lower Value) than Pale Oak + more colourful (higher Chroma). They have the capacity to appear a little greenish where Pale Oak reads well for you. But maybe less likely to do so where Pale Oak looks a little pink/purple. If either is too dark? Then you need a colour with higher Value. If either is too colourful? Then you are looking for a colour with a lower Chroma. If these still read too pinkish? Then moving further clockwise again could help mitigate that. Viewing large paint chips or samples in your space, with your lighting will help indicate how they are likely to behave for you. #huefamilies #value #chroma

It's always a good idea to get larger samples before choosing, like the Samplize samples. DH bought a piece of drywall and cut it into four pieces and we use them to try various colors. You may not want to do this if you're only painting a bathroom, but if you're going to end up painting several rooms you can use them over and over. I have sometimes thought I had the right color but after seeing it on a larger expanse, changed my mind. That size of sample gives you a better idea than a chip or even a Samplize sample does. Be sure to paint two coats so you get the kind of coverage you would end up with on a finished wall.

In general, I find paint colors look more intense on walls than you expect, so if you want to go right to painting your walls, I would try Pale Smoke first. Almost anything goes with black and white, so the odds are this will look fine.

Pale Smoke has more green in it . I use large poster boards aith 2 coats of each color and just get sample cans to start. I do 25-50% cut on BM Healing Aloe often but I aslo get the paint mixed all at the same time and added to a big bucket and stirred often during painting. So you can do the same with those . I love gray but I use C2 Vancouver Day for my living spaces it is just a hint of gray and honestly until you see it next to pure white it looks white . Only you can tell what works in your space with your lighting, BTW I use all LED 4000K lighting all over my house some on dimmers if needed .

Yes there is natural light in the room and even from a small window it is enough.

I like the idea of blue with your black and white tile floor. Your bathroom sounds nice.

White walls would also work, its what we did in our bath similar to yours with all white marble. Solid gray floors is the only difference instead of the basketweave. Feels very open in white paint.

You could consider a gray and white basketweave instead of b/w. Our gray really picks up the gray veining in the marble nicely.
