New construction question - wrong wood floor installed
Comments (52)The real question is the pros/cons of getting it changed and what is a reasonable settlement if we keep it. Pros - The floor is done and you get to move on African tali is a harder wood The builder is happy Cons - It is not the floor you wanted Delay completion - If lucky, the delay is only while your GC orders and waits for the flooring to be delivered and then while the floor acclimates in the house as well as waiting for the other subs (cabinets maker, countertop maker, painters and plumber) to put everything back in place. If you are not so lucky, there will be further delays due to damage to the cabinets, countertops and appliances. The builder is not happy and you end up with other issues where he may not see things your way. Only you can determine if the pros outweigh the cons. There are always compromises to be made during a build. And, we are all human, mistakes happen....See MoreHELP!!! Island legs look wrong - granite install Monday 8AM
Comments (18)I just now found this thread and I hope everything has worked out for you ok. I've designed and built 100's of islands with 100% satisfied customers. The photo of your island is a bad design as far as the legs are concerned. The legs are one of the focal points of an island and putting them behind a valance makes the integrity of the leg look terrible, Some advice for all of you. Never use a GC to have anything to do with your kitchen but build the room. I've yet to meet a GC that was a kitchen designer and most of the ones I know want to go the cheapest route with "their" cabinet maker to make more profits off you. I work with GC's and they know to send the customer to me and leave the cabinetry and tops up to the client and myself. Be it noted that I still have to pay them a "finder's fee" for sending their client to me. It seems to me there was some not good communication between all parties involved which there can be to many parties involved in a kitchen design and the build of the kitchen. If possible please give us another photo of what your end results were and I think we all hope you got what you wanted....See MoreHVAC install gone wrong -help getting out of carpet?
Comments (14)I don't see how that can be PVC primer. I'm no expert, just a DIY, but I've never seen bright blue PVC primer. My first thought was blue RTV sealant. But the way it's apparently run down one wall doesn't suggest RTV. It looks more like some kind of paint. The marks on the carpet also suggest that he set something that had been coated with whatever it is right on the carpet. What was he thinking? Regardless of what it is or what he was thinking, there's no excuse for this kind of sloppy, shoddy work. Serious question - do you think that the installer might have been drunk or high? You don't really say what you've done about this. You probably should have called the HVAC company and raised holy howdy the day after he left. If it's been a few weeks, they can probably argue that something else caused it. Hey, you have a toddler, so they can always blame the kid. :( Still, it can't hurt to have a quick chat with your lawyer. Sometimes a phone call from a suit is all it takes to get a company's attention. The common perception is that the low bidder will usually do a poor job. My experience has been that many factors affect the bid, and that there isn't anything close to 100% inverse correlation between the bid amount and the job quality. Notably, you can get solid gold references and still end up with a crummy job....See Morewrong color shower floor tile was installed
Comments (15)Brown grout will ACCENT the blue. There will be a colour clash between the two colours and the blue will scream out "I'm blue! How are you?" Have you ever seen chocolate brown furniture with TEAL BLUE accent cushions? Yah. The two colours make each other 'pop'. They are on the opposite sides of the colour wheel. To tone down blue, you need a lesser version of 'blue' in the grout. Besides, I'm not seeing an issue with the tiles in the shower. They are all working nicely together. What is your concern with the blue in the tile?...See MoreRelated Professionals
