I was so distracted thinking about paint colors...
Comments (32)Your color dilemma reminds me a bit of my situation too. At my former house I had all warms and golds and earthtones, some very saturated. Loved it. Now I moved to new place and color scheme is giving me a hard time. My cabinets are warm like yours, but everything else is cool -- furniture, counter, walls. I am trying to work with greens and blue's because I know that makes color sense, but the cabinets and my deep preferences keep making me gravitate back to my earthtones. When I go shopping, I am always drawn to the warm saturated earthtones. So one thing to consider as you progress is the types of colors that speak to you and will make you happier. Probably best to work within our natural tendencies. I am trying to embrace white and cream as the "balancer", but it is difficult. Your sofa looks taupe in some shots and creamy in others. I think that makes a huge difference as to the wall colors in that space. Can you handle white or cream in most of the areas and find a section or wall to splash on some serious color? The dining area is a good candidate for that and you can skip curtains if it is colorful enough....See Morenew Rug(s) arrived - what do you think?
Comments (80)I typed a response last night by DD borrowed my computer and I forgot to post.:( The rug you have looks good. It doesn't have to stand on its own; it's part of a whole. I am like you (I think). I don't like any one item in my home to stand out, or things to look too decorated and deliberate. I like the yellow rugs for your chairs, but they may be just a tad too much "on the nose." I liked wool sisal for your room, but I love texture. I like everything to meld together to create a calm, comfortable whole. I want people to say "I love this room", not "I love that rug". To me, the later speaks to the luck of a purchase, the former speaks to my ability to create an atmosphere. To me, the addition of the yellow tee-shirt pillow cinched it. But, I agree, the little shelf needs work to fit in. You have good instincts; trust them. Dee...See MoreOk, I think it's final, going with wood floor in kitchen. But...
Comments (18)Marti- Wood is a great choice for your kitchen. It will be warm, easier on your feet...and not as noisy, which I know is important, too. I'd stop the tile of the laundry room just even with the washer dryer. The garbage pull out could be on the wood and no one would see the division, with the wall oven at the end of that counter. I think a wood threshold, between the wood floor and tile will look nice and give you a nice transition area. Will that work in real life? It seems to, in the pictures....See MoreI need a non-slip treatment for my ceramic tile kitchen floor
Comments (4)I was interested in this, too. However, if you read the FAQ, it only claims to alter the tile's coefficient of friction when wet. It says it will not change the slipperiness of the dry tile. I am debating using some epoxy grout, and just not cleaning it up off the surface totally. Any thoughts on that harebrained idea?...See MoreRelated Professionals
