You are going to want more than 32" for the toilet. 36" is standard (and perhaps even code in some areas???? Not here in Maine but I heard people saying that on other forums...) We have 34" and it feels fine but I dont think I'd want to go much tighter. You could solve that simply by flipping the closet and shower. So, have your shower -rotated 90 degrees and witha glass end wall- at the end of the tub (which is a nice setup you can see in many bathrooms, the tub deck can actually protrude under the shower glass wall and be a ledge or seat in the shower). Then the passageway moves to the left, and you can steal a bit of space from the other closet for the toilet. Either that of have a shorter vanity. 48" isn't a size I'd fight for. It's too short for a double vanity, really (unless you're using one of the new two-faucet 'trough" styles) so why not go down to 42" and have a better toilet area? For resale, though, you should consider a double vanity. Some people I guess expert truly huge ones, like at least 5+' long. But you CAN get smaller ones, Ikea has some great ones for tight spaces. But if you're not selling anytime soon, do what YOU like!! (But I still think you'll want more toilet space...)

We talked to our contractor yesterday and everything has been worked out to our satisfaction. Regarding the bullnose, he agreed to pull off two of the worst and replace them with tiles that are more square. Regarding the uneven 12 x 12s, he explained that our wall is not the same size all the way up (our house was built in 1970) and he said he purposely jogged the tile ever so slightly so there wouldn't be a big gap at the top. He said if we were worried about the grout lines not looking straight because of this, he wound use a diamond edge against the tiles to remove a bit of the edge and help the grout lines look straight. We looked at the way he set the 12 x 12s, and he did indeed jog out each line very slightly--there was nothing haphazard about it at all. All's well that ends well, except that we chose a terra cotta-look tile that has a fairly high degree of variability between the tiles, and he set 3 of the darker ones too close together, so that they really stood out on the shower wall that you see as you walk in the door. So today, my husband asked him to take off 2 of the tiles and replace them with different tiles ( DH has a more flexible schedule since he's self-employed so I got out of the task of telling the contractor something he probably wasn't happy to hear). The result is absolutely gorgeous. Now that you guys (mongo and bill vincent) have informed me that Florida tile is notorious for being out of square, I probably won't use it in future projects, but this tile is just stunning. I'm VERY happy with the look. We are sticking with the light chocolate grout and I will post pictures after it's grouted. Thanks for all the incredibly helpful input.

My parents house is like that, but there’s a wall with a wide doorway into the area with the vanity, so it’s open but also easy to close off by just putting a curtain rail up. It’s also oriented to the room such that if you only use enough light at the vanity to wash your hands for a midnight potty run, it really isn’t enough to bother someone in the bed if you place the bed sensibly. Getting ready in the morning would be trickier if you needed to do makeup and so on so needed proper lighting, so that’s where a screen or a curtain would come in.

What is the 20.5" dimension please? From the outside of the cabinet to the outside of the cabinet or the inside of the cabinet to the inside of the cabinet? If the latter, the Caxton will fit.
