Yes, the mosaic is bordered by a thin limestone pencil tile. The white tile is thinner than the mosaic, so the pencil tile makes a nice transition between the two. This is not our tile, but it's the picture that inspired what we did with the pencil tile. Laying the tile out on the livingroom floor, just a single tile width, really helped to visualize what pattern we liked. I was going to do a full sheet of masaic (12") as the stripe, but when I laid it out it looked like too much mosaic. We played with the widths of the mosaic by cutting one sheet into 3" rows and adding or taking away sections to make different width strips. Doing this, coupled with taking the width of the cuts neccessary for the white tile into consideration really helped to visualize the look.

micherine the wall hung vanity was custom made by my general contractor's longtime cabinet subcontractor, which is a large shop in San Jose. I can't recommend them. While the workmanship was excellent (with one exception I'll describe below) the process to design, get a quote, and select the wood was one of the most painful and frustrating parts of our whole-house remodel. They didn't return phone calls or emails. They weren't in the shop when I drove down there to meet with them at pre-arranged times. They didn't treat my job as if it mattered. It took nearly 2 months just to get a quote from plans we drew up together. They wanted to charge me double the retail price for the Mockett pulls. I bought them myself and drove them down to be installed. They didn't pack the doors well for delivery - they were wrapped tightly together with nothing in between them so the pulls on one drawer dug into the wood on the one next to it. They did send a repair guy out who to fix it who was excellent, but he's leaving the company because he's tired of facing the wrath of customers who were unhappy with the entire process. My general contractor knows they're difficult to work with but sticks with them because they're slightly less expensive than other shops. The one workmanship issue I had was that the 1" filler piece wasn't grain-matched with the door next to it. This is not a difficult thing - all of my kitchen cabinets were grain-matched including filler pieces. But it's minor in the whole scheme of things. Aren't you glad you asked? If I had to do it again I'd go with Ikea cabinets and SemiHandMade door and drawer fronts, as I did in my kitchen. Here's my inspiration picture that I found on the SemiHandMade site last year. This is so helpful, everybody! I realize I should have specified that I have a 9' ceiling in the bathroom, so it's taller than either the length (almost 8') or width (almost 7') of the room. That's part of the reason I don't want to run tile all the way up to the ceiling. I think it would look overwhelmingly tall and out of proportion. House Vixen, I'm having trouble seeing what you're describing as running bond – unless you mean in the field tile itself. I do rather like that pattern used with square tiles. (I confess I'm getting a little tired of rectangular subway tile absolutely everywhere, which is not to say there aren't a lot of bathrooms that use it that are both period and gorgeous.)
