dining room pictures

I have a 13ft dining room with wallpaper & found these pictures frames that I’d like to buy and place on the wall like the two inspiration photos shown. Question 1: should I purchase the top or bottom frames? Question 2: how many pictures & rows? Is there a ratio with the number of pictures to place on that size wall?

Since you already have a wall with multi pics I woiuld do one large piece instead .I see 2 DRs is that right? IMO too muchmatchy anything is just too much I think in the DR with the bare wall I would look for a really large piece more horizontal with a tiny bit of the wall color in it since you are not buying original art thenI guess make the art go with the space but do not hang the new pice as high as in the pic below

neither one is large enough for your space.

Why would you hang generic photos in your home? Frame photos you have taken or artwork that means something to you.

I don't often agree with Patricia, but a very large canvas or a couple would be better suited to a dining room.

Okay, after looking through teacat's suggested site and re-viewing pix on Google at oakleyok's suggestion (I have done that in the past but hadn't looked recently), I realized Thing #1 wrong with my room. I have a tablecloth on the table. It's gone now and already it looks better! I am easily reminded WHY I had the tablecloth on in the first place. DS#1 and a friend did their homework on it years ago and the pens pushed through the wood. Also, it looks as though our cat might have spent some time torturing a smaller animal there as well. On went the protective pads and the tablecloth to save what was left; son has moved out and cat moved up. I'm planning on posting the room for suggestions, perhaps this weekend. brutuses, thank you for taking the time to post--I was referring to the gallery's Dining Room Eye Candy thread in my original post :) I'm spoiled by the gallery pictures because they are so much larger than what you pull up on Google and other sites.

Omgosh, when I first saw this topic, I thought "dining room? Other people really have those?". (I thought they were mythical in old houses - like unicorns, lol!). Turns out I'm not alone, I guess. :-) We have a counter with raised eat-at bar separating kitchen from living room, and the kitchen table in the living room (of all places), for sit down meals & homeschooling. In this house I have to throw convention out the window & be creative, kinda like the "multi-purpose" rooms in grade school. ;-). The decorating isn't done (ok, started), yet, but I'll get some pics on when it's ready. (Hopefully before new years). Jiggreen - your kitten looks just like our "Sunday", complete with the tree! She was about that age last year & did the same thing - except I gotta tell you it was worse when she & her brother ("Saturday") were chasing each OTHER all around inside & UP that thing! DH had to custom build a stand for it so we didn't have to pick the tree back up every morning! I'll absolutely be trying the aluminum idea - thanks Tricia! :-)

Dining Room Color --- I'm stuck, please help!!

You know, when we bought the dining room set there were these *perfect* mission style lamps as you describe on display sitting on the buffett and I was going to purchase them and my husband said "no no no we can get those later". Well, I've had a hard time trying to find them and the furniture store no longer carries them...grrr! But I digress... Home Depot closes in less than two hours and with painters coming tomorrow, I have no choice but to take a chance and go with the Peanut Butter. It is probablly my safest bet. I have not even attempted to decorate this dining room yet (other than purchasing furniture), so I really intend on bringing in splashes of color, both in artwork, pottery, and textiles. Perhaps a punch of orange on a table runner or something like that. Plus I haven't even gotten an oriental for the dining room yet (still recovering from the cost of the orientals in the LR and hallways) so I'm confident I can get some color in there. Also I need to purchase a new chandelier so I'll have another opportunity there ---- I hope! Thank you all for your help! Wish me luck!!

Please post photos of your dining room and indicate which wall for the proposed art.

I like your inspiration photos. I like the frames with the larger mat but that leaves an opening of only 5”x5”. What do you plan to put in the frames? Will they be over a console or server (provide dimensions)? Are you doing sconces alongside? Do you have enough complementary art/photos for the multiple frames?

There will be no buffet/console table as theres very little space in the room. I hadn’t thought of sconces but that sounds like a great idea for bringing dimension. I was going to put black & white pics from places we’ve traveled, but keep them more abstract by zooming in and cropping them. But sounds like that’s a boring idea. I will look for artwork but I struggle with finding “the one” that is perfect. Appreciate the help. I will post when I figure out what to hang.

If it is aesthetically pleasing to you and looks good in the space that is all that matters. (I have a hard time finding one - let alone six, images I want to hang on a wall.)

I do not think your first picture is laid out well. And the sconces look dinky.

Get brown craft paper and cut out the size frames you are looking at. Lay them out and tape the to the wall. Play around with spacing until you get it right. Then purchase the frames and hang.

I agree with Kendra….. use craft paper and tape to wall with painters tape until you get it right. It does not sound like a boring idea! Go for it. I like the frames with the large mats and you might think of doing a single row. See what works best using the craft paper. That’s how I avoided making mistakes.
