My damn Jack Pears have Fireblight! is it cuz they came from Oregon
Comments (36)Fireblight is most definitely a spring related occurrence - it does not happen "later in the season". Also, Monrovia is the largest wholesale plant grower/vendor in the country and as such, they are regulated by all manner of Ag inspections, especially given the concerns about SOD. Just by way of brief explanation, fireblight is a bacterial pathogen that proliferates in warm, moist springs. It has nothing to do with soils but is transported via wind/air movement, insects and pollinators and via mechanical means (contaminated tools). It tends to focus on vulnerable new growth unless already well established in the plant and easily infects via any sort of damaged tissue, like from shipping/transport damage or heavy rains and hail. Control at this point is to prune off the affected shoots beyond any disease symptoms to the next growth node or branch joint. Spraying with a fixed copper fungicide can help as well but only as a moderate preventative for further infection....See MoreTrees Hit by Fireblight
Comments (2)I might ask on the fruit and orchards forum since the question deals with diseases that effect fruit trees whether you are growing for ornament or produce. There should be some expertise over there. https://www.gardenweb.com/discussions/fruit...See MoreFireblight on raspberry?

Comments (3)I wouldn't panic yet!! Because one plant is showing disease symptoms does not automatically mean any other susceptible species will necessarily become infected....See MoreRelated Professionals
