electric trash cabinet opener?

last month

I order the Ultrusta opener from Ikea to put in the new cabinets that are being installed March 31st. It plugs into an outlet in the back of the cabinet. I love the idea of hands-free open\close.

My issue is my doodle. He is a garbage hound and has broken into cabinets with child-locks, cabinets secured with bands tied to handles, and knows how the pedal ones works. I think it's a mental issue because he eats non-food items also, (Barbie doll leg).

I thought this electric opener might out-smart the dog, but the more I think about it, the more unlikely that seems. One swipe on the cabinet door and it would be a trash buffet for him (he's super quiet and sneaky when food is involved).

I have never used one like the Ultrusta, so if you have one that is similar, would it keep out a food motivated dog? Are there better in-cabinet trash options that can keep scavenger dogs out? Would it be considered dog abuse if I put mouse traps in the new pull-outs the first few days after the install to discourage him? He's 85lbs, so a mouse trap would only scare him.

Don't tell me to train him better. I have tried for 8 years but he has no problem with scolding and yelling for bad behavior, and unlike a human child bargaining, reasoning, and pleading are useless.
