Having this same problem as want to paint the trim around kitchen window to match cabinets (Medallion) took piece to BM (my favorite and they were unable to get it in their camera system) so I went to SW and they matched. I didn't buy yet as am waiting to hear back from Elkay/Medallion.

I posted this on another thread but I thought it might help here as well. Since Omega is in the running... Another very satisfied Omega customer here! We had a great experience with them. Not only are our cabinets wonderful , but their customer service was great as well. We had an issue w/our extra shelves (new installation manager at our original KD's parent company ordered the wrong size...twice). The new installation manager gave us a hard time about it and told me I would have to deal w/Omega directly, how our shelves weren't under warranty, we'd have to pay a second time, they couldn't find the original order (even though I had the original wrong shelves sitting in front of me w/an order #!), etc.... Well, I called Omega & their CS rep told me it was all nonsense (they also had the original order) and said they would contact the installation manager directly and take care of it for me. They did did just that...and very quickly! I can't tell you how happy that made me! We have mostly Dynasty (semi-custom) cabinets but a couple of Custom as well. BTW...another big advantage of Omega is that you can use their less-expensive Dynasty/semi-custom cabinets in general and only use Omega Custom if you need something that's not in the Dynasty line... All the finishes & most of the door styles in the Dynasty line are also in the Custom line so it makes it easy (the Custom line does have add'l finishes & door styles not in Dynasty).

There's no rule really dictating what you do. You can match your ceiling to your crown as we have done in several rooms now. In our case both ceiling and trim are SW Ivory Lace (which is similar but I believe even darker than Creamy) which really warms up the room and looks good with the generally darker wall and wood finishes in our house. The semigloss on the trim and the flat on the ceiling ensures that they don't completely blend in. On the other hand you can absolutely do a different ceiling color. But if you do I would test out how both look in your space to make sure they are compatible. Before we repainted much of the trim in the house was even more cream (similar to SW Antique White). The ceilings were all closer to a Pure White. The result is that the trim ended up looking yellow. So if you switch to another white, make sure it is still sufficiently on the warm side of the spectrum. Or a third option, as in cpartist's house, try a color. If you aren't feeling that bold it doesn't have to be that dark. It could be the same hue as your wall color, but a shade or two lighter, as long as it is still a shade darker than your trim. Cabinets can absolutely be their own thing separate from the trim or ceiling. But if all are white again refer to my second point about ensuring that they are compatible. Our cabinets happen to be BM Shaker Beige.
