Modern Farmhouse Kitchen Living Room Combo Help

Hi! I need help with this space. This is the extension of the kitchen (behind the recliner is a 4 seat kitchen island that is white quartz). Do I put a cabinet of some sort against the wall under the air unit, small leaf drop 2 seat table, plant something or other or something else? There is a dining room on this floor too so we don't need that. Thanks in advance!!!

very nice room. The rug and that chair work, the sofa in the white is meh. (definite no in that gray color). but I think you can do better. I would have gone w/crisper whites and blacks and warmer grays. Maybe that PB rug is nicer in person, but in the photo the color looks really muddy. I like the ones in this pic,,,deep charcoal, whites, grays, touch of light aqua.. and this table For rug, I'd do a coloring like this one, or some of the others in the pics I love your floors and thing you should bring in some wood in your sofa, even if it is on the modern side. Like this: A walnut, style sofa like this, in a navy, charcoal, very light gray,,,would be perfect more blacks/charcoal, crisp whites, some texture, don't know what the plans are for the sides of the fireplace, but here are some ideas

Nicole, what direction do the windows face -- north, south, east, west? I think your third inspiration picture is lovely and also the easiest to follow. The wall color, white fireplace, and adding crown molding are all fairly easy changes; the paint color in that photo is SW Agreeable Gray. Of course, it depends how much light your living room gets, because that inspiration room looks as if it gets lots of natural light, in part because it has windows on at least two different walls. What's harder is your sofa. Have you noticed that the sofas in your inspiration pics all have white slipcovers or are a very very light tan/beige? So if you're committed to keeping the couch, you're already losing a major element and there's a good chance the style will be off from the start. Justin, we built a house in 1985 that reminds me a lot of your house. I really struggled with finding and placing furnishings that fit the scale and drama and rather oddly shaped spaces ( that we specified). We now live in a small farmhouse on a small horse farm. White plastered walls, white painted trim.Much easier. May I suggest you look at Texas Hill Country farmhouses for inspiration? They tend to be strongly defined but simple, sometimes incorporating "Spanish" elements, if you like those. ( This is kind of random, I do think your front door should be changed. It doesn't seem to fit either farmhouse or the house, in my opinion. You can do better.) PS. In this soaring space, pay close attention to your fixture choices. I think the one shown in this Hill Country house would fit well, for example, but the right scale, no matter the style, will really make a difference.

I am glad you are happy. I like the chandy with your space and table. I like the color (black) of the chairs, but I have to be honest, from a design and scale perspective and size of space the chairs aren’t appropriate. The style is in conflict with the more modern lines of the table and other elements and the height of the backs makes the space look squeezed. A lower back black chair would be so much better. If you decide to do a piece on the far wall, keep it open and light. I could see a black console with metal and shelves above. Something like this. Keep buffet lines simple. Could be black rather than wood. Your choice. Keep it to about 48” wide. Not too big.

Thanks for the help! I like the idea of a cabinet of some sort with perhaps a large floor plant in the corner. Any suggestions for cabinets?

This is how large your area rug should be. The size you selected to too small and isn't the proper backdrop for the large scale furniture you have placed in the space.

The white leather recliner is too large for the area. Seriously, you could get a smaller scale recliner that is just a comfy and not have it take up as much room.

Also, in the space where the sofa ends and the recliner is placed you need a floor lamp for the room for general ambient light.

The area in front of the sliders was meant to serve as a spot for a breakfast table.........

If you only eat at the island, use the space for something else. What? Who knows, because posting a floor plan with dimensions would help, or draw and measure alllllll of this and post a drawing with dimensions.

Not loving those two rugs together ( sorry ) and love the huge recliner even less: )But feet and inches inform everything and is better than a thousand guesses posted here.....( get a bracket for the tv and mount on the wall )

That sounds like a versatile space with lots of potential. If you want something functional, a sleek console table or a small storage cabinet could work well under the air unit. If you're leaning more decorative, a statement plant or a gallery wall could add personality. A small drop-leaf table is a great option if you’d like a flexible seating area without taking up too much space. Since you already have a dining room, you could also consider a cozy reading nook or a stylish bar cart. Hope that helps!

How can we even inform a color you might like? No.not dark. The coffee table is dark. There is NO color in the entire space. .....you must like something? There is nothing other than SIZE wrong with the rug you have, IF you like it.!! But no, it doesn't work with blue.

You never measured, we've no idea what you want to do with the area in front of the slider..! You want a feeling that is cohesive to both areas. so......? Find a rug you LOVE for the major sitting area, and do you know what size? Other than "bigger"
