White Quartzite/Luca de Luna counters-ideas for backsplash??
Comments (4)Out LDL/White Macaubus island was installed less than two weeks ago. It's so beautiful. Everyone that's seen it has commented on it and asked about it. We chose ours with some quartz crystal veining shooting in another direction that adds a bit of interest to it. Our leathered absolute black perimeter and bar will be installed within the next week. But we're going for more of a transitional feel rather than contemporary. I'm looking for "traditional with a twist" I guess. I chose it because I loved the linear pattern yet it felt flowy to me as well. I didn't want to deal with marble and didn't want the business of granite. I also didn't want my same antiqu brown granite from our previous home, though they were lovely. It was hard to swallow the price though! I may do marble hex tiles around the perimeter or a great small oval stone mosaic I saw at a local tile place. I haven't started my serious search yet since the perimeter isn't in. But I've been keeping my eyes opened....See MoreBacksplash help for Quartzite counters
Comments (21)Thanks everyone! We're going with the glass tile, and definitely appreciate all the advice and feedback. Anna & Breezy - ya, we weren't sure that the color was right, but it actually blends a lot more now that we have the island in (it brings more crisp white to the room). Isabel - Thanks! We love the tile on the fireplace, but I think it would be a disaster to keep clean behind the stove :) We've been a bit busy getting the island in - here's what we accomplished!...See MoreBacksplash help for Calacatta Gold quartzite counters...it's time!
Comments (98)Hey, barncatz: Every word of consolation and support helps. I'm trying not to rush the BS decision, but I know I'll feel much better about the countertop experience once I'm not staring at these sliver add-ons. One of my very early inspirations was Majra's kitchen. She, just like pipdog, used the mosaics for a lovely effect. And this is why I spent so much time last year looking at mosaics. But the mosaics seem a bit too busy (for me) up close. The rest of my kitchen is a work in progress. Lotsa 9-1/2' walls that will need to be painted again (probably a cool white -- the next challenge!), and a ton of natural light coming in. Baseboards, pantry door and trim are all semi-gloss white, and ceiling is white. Kitchen is open to the family room: taupe walls with a white fireplace/mantel -- white trim throughout the entire house. pippiep: Matching grout it is, then! One decision down. :) I've marked out the areas that will require BS tile. As you can see, it's not very expansive, and each one not very large. So, I need to find the correct scale/dimension tile that will look right in these spaces. I think using larger (3x6) tiles in a herringbone pattern will leave me with a bunch of chopped up squares in the bartop and cutout window areas. At least with the newest elongated hex pattern, most of the hexes will be retained....See MoreAnother Backsplash thread....thought we wanted green...now not so sure
Comments (42)Hey guys..not at home right now, but the Sherwin Williams color on the walls is "cachet cream". When I put it up, the running joke for the entire paint project was, "wow...i'm having a hankering for something...sweet...and orange-like...but with vanilla in the middle. Creamsicle!!!" However, after it dried, it mellowed into something more creamy / yellow. It definitely has a yellow tint in the natural light. When we painted the walls, we didn't know what the backsplash was going to be, so it was more of a 'guess' seeing as though we'd either get it right or have to paint it again...and it is sooooo much easier to paint with no flooring, etc. in the room... Here is a link to the color: Sherwin Williams Cachet Cream...See MoreRelated Professionals
