Stage 1 and Stage 2. Your thoughts?
Comments (2)Hi Sugarbaby, Your post was very interesting and it will be exciting to see what the gurus help you figure out. I'm not a guru, but I'll toss some ideas out that may or may not be helpful. Do you use the coat closet as a coat closet? If not, I'd be eying it up for your pantry to get the pantry cupboard out of the kitchen. Someone posted an awesome pantry that was a converted closet (about the size of yours) filled in with Ikea drawers a few weeks ago. It was amazing what they were able to fit inside there. Edited to add the thread with Mulemom's ikea pantry drawers, below. I really think you need more landing space next to your sink. I realize you were trying to avoid corner cupboards, but with the size of your kitchen I think putting a corner cupboard where you have your pantry drawn would give you some desperately needed counter space. You'll need a spot for dirty dishes (both from the table and from any cooking or baking activities) to land before they go in the dw, and 2' is awfully tight for a family of 7. You are also going to want to shorten the island a bit. Even with a cd fridge, it's a bit too tight, I think. Most CDs still stick out past the counter, unfortunately. That's a main walk area and it will function much better for your active family if it's wider. It's fantastic that you are starting your planning so early. We started planning our kitchen when we first moved into this house 4 years ago, and it has taken us until a few weeks ago to hammer it out. (Lots of challenging "architecture", big family, extra appliances, etc.) Hopefully yours won't take nearly as long. Best wishes! : ) Here is a link that might be useful: Mulemom's closet is about 1/2 way down the page This post was edited by laughable on Thu, Feb 7, 13 at 12:04...See MoreButler's Pantry or Coat Closet

To answer Karin K, our mudroom enters next to our kitchen and exits into the back of my spouses work shop and our back yard so since most entering and exiting will happen at the front door having an alternate storage for there would be nice....See MoreBest protection for new closets, pantry (MDF and birch)?
Comments (3)Just put some bin on a wall for water stain control today. Yup, it stinks, but dissipates pretty quickly. Ideally, your contractor (or you) would have primed any of the mdf before installation. Then you could have done it outside. He recommended bin because of how quickly it dries and would not cause as much bubbling of the surface. Mdf is usually painted. It will make the shelves easier to clean. I think you should have some type of finish on all the surfaces. What you use will depend on what look you are going for....See MorePantry Closet Design Help
Comments (9)Consider using the vertical drawers idea: Create a pair of storage units that fit in the center of the closet but roll out -- one with shelving for kitchen pantry items and one with both shelf and hanging for mops and brooms ( hanging over your mop bucket for cleaning items. Creating individual roll out storage for two different types of items for which you need storage space could keep those kinds of items separate but in the same closet -- and do so while eliminating the need to physically step into the closet to get the items on either of those rolling units -- thus, leaving more room for you to include any built in items you want on each side/end of the closet -- items that you can more easily reach with the two rolling units are out of the closet. You could create just one roll out cabinet for your cleaning items, enabling you to move your cleaning closet room to room with you for cleaning or to a garage otherwise out of the house as needed when you don't want those mop smells in the closet....See MoreRelated Professionals
