living room Furniture Design Dilemma

living room layout

We are looking to furnish our bare living room and having trouble coming up with what furniture to purchase given the space (scale drawing below and photo below). There are two doorways (no doors) in the space that make centering furniture to face the fireplace/tv difficult. Leaning towards maybe a sofa along the wall between the two door ways and maybe two chairs under the windows on the wall to the right of the mantle. Any suggestions for optimizing this layout are welcome!

Beautiful room with all the big windows. How many people do you need to seat to watch tv?

BTW, It would be good to have the stains sanded out (or the stained wood replaced by feathering in) by a pro before moving furniture into the room.

my first purchase would be a large area rug, to ground the space.

Centered on the fireplace.

a sofa facing the fireplace, not hugging the wall. a console table behind the sofa.

comfortable side chairs or even two matching sofas facing each other on either side of the fireplace. side chairs to compliment the sofa(s) upholstered or leather, not all matching.

large coffee table After you have completed a cozy conversation area with the focal point/fireplace, build out the room with a games table and a couple chairs at the window.

how about dining at this end? Dining table, hutch, sideboard? What do you NEED?

Room painted neutral and I have some large artwork in teals and green and fabric to make pillows in same color family. I thought about putting sofa against wall but wanted to be able to face pretty view outside too

I am confused what are all the pics added to the comment are thye ideas you like or what. Waht you show in the pics are very traditionl syle is that what you want ? I do not think a sectional works in a traditional space ever . A sofe is the first thing IMO since you want thta for sure so get that then we have some clue as to what to choose for the rest . I agree matching pieces are probably no going to happen off craigs list so start building the sapce with the sofa. If tyou raely watch TV then make thta a choice to not drive al, the othe rchoices .. For me the FP redo will drive many choices so wai until thta is done for function . Do you need a FP is also a question . Are you going gas insert ? How often do you use a FP so many things to consider in a new space .Hot water or electric baseboard heaters ? I ahve hot water baseboard heaters they really have had very little influence on my furniture laout but electric are a fire hazed . I need info Post all things related to this post here now in comments DO NOT start another post .

You need to decide how much of what you need to see, and from where, and how many and the tv issue Maybe the slider needs to be all window! the access to the porch in combo with the attempt to make a fire from a stove? will Kill your room. The space needs a better exit, and it needs to be out of seating area and not hog all the space. Put a bump at the porch so you can exit ! Get windows and put them above the couch back! Male a clear view door to the porch, closer to kitchen! Add a window at the far left. But you're trying to have everything, see everything which may get you not much for a lot of money. Show the porch....... it's the thing that does darken the room.: : ) so a clear view door, another window on that side, may be well worth light and a better traffic pattern . Along with all window to replace the existing slider. ( ( 7 ' passage to couch, not to console ).... Not everything on the internet is good - this is one not good. At ALL: ( Neither is the other lol

Beautiful room. I had a similar set up once. I'd arrange the space first with all of the furniture, keeping the glass doors on and in the open position all of the time. If that doesn't work then take them off of the hinges. They add a lot of architectural interest and balance out the fireplace wall. How many live in your home and watch TV regularly? If it is only 2 adults, I'd get a long sofa opposite the TV wall and add an ottoman instead of getting a sectional. No matter the pieces you end up with, a sofa and chairs with slender arms and fewer curves looks great in a room looks great in a room like this. You don't want the furniture to be the focal point - you want the emphasis to still be on the architectural features of the room.
