That far wall is just painted an ugly copper like color, i prefer to drywall it up, there are no doors on that wall, it doesnt go to anywhere. The front door is that wood door where the boxes are in the picture. That is a swimming pool outside of those patio doors, that area is where the dining room will be though. Those sliding glass doors will be french door sliding doors soon. I would like to make the space a more formal living area, I do like the idea of a bar and then 4 chairs with a cocktail table in the middle, should I also maybe included a rug in the space? The problem that I'm having is how to actually layout the formal space, meaning where do I place everything in the room so that it looks clean, modern, and not out of place. The new front door will be white with glass, when that is installed the door that will open will be further away from the copper looking wall and the doors open outward not into the house, so maybe I should put some type of long modern buffet type piece against that copper looking wall?

When my dad retired at 57 y/o , they sold our family home and bought a Winter home in Florida and a small Summer place on a lake there in Michigan where we'd grown up. I was already married and living here in New Mexico. My siblings living near them got the furniture, some art, and other things they weren't using in either of their new homes. I'd already inherited my great-grandmother's set of fine china, our large family Bible, etc. from my grandparents. Years later when my parents were moving to a retirement home back in Michigan near family there, they gave me the silver, the crystal and some art. My sibs didn't want it in favor of the furniture and more everyday pieces. Mom passed this past March and our father has downsized to a smaller retirement apartment. My nearby family, which now includes many adult nieces and nephews in their twenties, have put to good use all that Dad didn't want or need. We 5 daughters put Mom's huge amount of jewelry in the middle of a dining room table and took turns choosing pieces. At my age, I already have our home here, decorated the way I want it. I have no desire for more knickknacks, furniture, etc. and was happy to let my sibs and their adult kids have the more basic things. Plus, i didnt want to ship large pieces back here to New Mexico. My own daughter was very happy with the jewelry I shared with her, along with a few small , favorite statues. Funny side note : after Mom's funeral , as we're going through security at DTW, I was pulled aside and searched, wanded, etc. I later realized that it was because I had two quart size zip lock bags crammed full of expensive jewelry, plus my own jewelry roll, in my carry-on bag. They must have thought I was a jewel thief or burglar trying to sneak out of town (LOL)!

I would put a full-length mirror on the angled wall, but this might be bad feng shui. However, according to feng shui, a mirror should never reflect another mirror, and I used to have this in my bedroom, so that I could see myself from the back, and so I'm not sure how to take some of those rules. I would avoid putting anything that might appear like clutter in that corner. I might just put a coat hook there.

Thank you for all the suggestions! This is amazing. I actually just got rid of a light blue suede couch that i've had for years (it looked great) but we switched it out because we have 2 small kiddos. It was a mess within a year. Embarrassed to say, but this couch is new to us =) Hindsight, i wouldn't have bought brown...lol. @Maureen thank you. I think a bookshelf may also work in that space and love your suggestions as well. Off to Winners I go.. I love the idea of fabric, thank you @freedomplace1 something I didn't even consider. I have a whole house of pine paneling so I'm going to try this in one of our other rooms. @ShadyWillowFarm acreage house from the 70's. Working on slowly updating but can't afford a full reno right now and husband has something against painting wood.. here is the other side of the room.. TV will be mounted on the fireplace with a mantel soon. @bever tteder @Irene Morresey I've been on the hunt for a great large canvas/art for about a year but can't seem to find anything that I love. Would you hang it center of the couch or center of the wall?
