Molding to mimic the look of crown
Comments (20)My house was built in 1891 and designed by a Boston architectural firm and was considered significant enough to be published in an architectural supplement to Scientific American the next year. It has picture rails close to the ceiling instead of crown molding in all of the bedrooms. The second owner didn't understand what they were and tried to caulk the joint in one room but the rest of them survived and I am the third owner. The living room has a picture rail down a foot from the ceiling with a large plaster cove above it. Other first floor rooms have large built-up crown moldings. Anything is better than nothing in a traditional house....See MoreTwo Story Great Room Painting and Trim/Molding Questions
Comments (26)I have a few more options. What do you think? Palimpsest, I did the one panel like you suggested and fixed the heights. I also like the idea of doing sort of a raised panel look, either in the color of the trim (with everything the same color) or else in the color of my book cases so it could mimic the book cases on the other wall (they will be stained blue) Any of these options look good? If I went with option 4 or 5, I'd probably have the paneling look more like this than exactly like above: Either painted trim color or painted in the blue....See MoreMedia Room color: walls, ceiling, crown molding
Comments (14)Thanks for all the help. I'm adjusting my mind to the idea of a really dark ceiling and trying to imagine how the room will look when the room isn't being used as a "theater". I probably should have said in my original post that this our general rec room and will probably also act as the grandchildrens' "dorm" at some point. This room also has two windows and a glass door to a porch. I was planning on using white plantation shutters in the rest of the house and I don't think the white plantation shutters will work well for light control. Since these windows will be very visible from the street do you think it's important to keep the window treatments uniform or can I do something different on these windows from the rest of the house? I'm definitely way out of my comfort zone on this and any help will be appreciated....See MoreBay Windows And Crown Molding

Today, right after I bought the compound miter saw .. I cut .. Oh, let me think, Oh yes, I cut Twelve inside and outside crown moldings that will fit perfectly in two other rooms that I want to do. THAT .. Even though I now know how to do those easy cuts would have taken me .. at least 8 to 9 hours to do .. I did them on the Dewalt in less than 30 minutes. Oh yes .. I did the cuts without all of that .. Upside Down and Backwards .. Bog The Mind, Into Insanity stuff....See MoreRelated Professionals
