Room in the raw; first drape question
Comments (6)Tuesday I love the plain cotton panels, too. I might reconsider the "floor length, pinch pleated" route. While "Country Cottage" wasn't my first choice, the room, its colors, the floor, and the moldings and trim are saying "I yam what I yam!" GrayWings I agree totally, if I choose floor length drapes, they'll touch the floor, dog hair and all! The Swiffer is my friend. We're going to test the bed in the corner tomorrow, but I don't know how that will work with my need for large end tables. It's certainly worth a try, though. Now, two more curtain concerns. (1) If I go with cotton panels, similar to Tuesday's suggestion, could they be lined? Should they be lined? Can they be hung without the tiebacks? Could the short, plain, cotton panels be layered over a patterned lace panel? Could the cotton panels be a color or print, and the lace undertreatment be ivory? (2) If I chose to hang ceiling-to-floor pleated drapes, could they be layered over sill-length lace or sheer panels? The lace/sheer panels would fit from the top of the window trim to the apron. The drapes would be ceiling to floor. Would any of these ideas be off or weird?...See MoreDrapery Question
Comments (1)Technically that would work if both the panels and sheers are the same length, but it screams "fake" to me. In your mind, what would it look like when you are finished? Do you want the sheers to completely cover the window, or would they just be on the edge of the window? Would you consider something other than sheers with the panels?...See Moredrapery question
Comments (47)I found this online on how to measure for drapes, and yes it came out to almost 9 yards, but I am assuming this is measuring if you want the drapes to close. For Drapes Step 1: Measure the width of your rod in inches. If you don’t have drapery hardware installed yet, measure the width of the area you would like covered by the drape. Step 2: Multiply this amount by 2 if you want your drapes to be 2 times fullness. If you choose a fuller look, then multiply by 2½. Step 3: Divide this amount by 54 inches. Now you know how many drops/widths of 54 inch wide fabric you will need. Step 4: Measure the length you want the finished drape to be in inches. Step 5: Add 16 inches to allow for the hem (8”) and heading (8”). Now you know how much fabric you will need for each drop/width of 54” wide fabric. Step 6: Multiply this answer from step 5 by the number of drops you will need. (answer of step 2) Now you have the amount of fabric you will need in inches. Divide by 36 inches to get the amount of fabric you will need in yards....See MoreCustom drape question
Comments (18)It's a stained glass piece of one of my kitty cats lol. And to answer your question, no I cannot so and I do not have a sewing machine. I can perhaps ask a girl I take my tailoring to as she is very good. If I did order fabric shears, how many yards what I need for a 16 foot wall on each side?...See MoreRelated Professionals
