I know I probably went overboard, but I have been searching Houzz for shower/tub combos for myself if I decide to go in that direction. Most of these pictures have Master Bath titles - they tend to be small houses or apartments in large cities where space is an issue. They all have a generous sized tub. A few have extra shower bling and even a separate tub filler. All of them have material choices and the level of tile work that you see in a master bathroom. I'm sure that if I searched Houzz I could find just as many, or even more, remodels of small master baths where they have just built a walk in shower. I think the decision to do a shower/tub may be a personal choice because they want a soaking tub - since they are titled Master I'm assuming the bath is not the only bath in the house and they could easily just go with a shower. Do you have a specific tub in mind? We have a Bain ultra air tub and I couldn't imagine showering in it every day. The acrylic bottom along with the added height of the side.... to me it seems like an accident waiting to happen. I guess it would depend on the height of the tub you had in mind. In regards to the automatic air purge, it only happens after the air cycles off. You wouldn't be turning the motor on when you shower so the automatic thing wouldn't happen.

You can install a small plastic or metal shut off valve between the shower nozzle and pipe to stop the water as shown in the link. Should be available at Lowe's, WalMart, etc. The water comes out of the shower head when you don't want it because the diverter valves on the newer spouts are smaller and that impedes water flow more and sends some of it up to the shower head even when it isn't selected. Email a few manufacturers. Tell them in one sentence you want flex lines, remote valves, and high flow. like the examples you will give them, the ABC and the YXZ. They will all respond. It's all mix and match these days, with remotes and flex lines. Last week I saw that Kohler's Oblo 3/4" valves would do fine for what you need. Geberit's Cascading Overflow will also do fine. In Italian, "erogazione" or erogation will bring up some other results like this. The tub fills from the same place as the overflow hole. Any remote valve will do.
