MCM piece

This popped today up on the local FBM - asking $1200. I think it's gorgeous. Too bad I don't have any need for it or any place to put it.

I love that! You can never have too many cabinets, only not enough wall space.

That is a beauty. We already have two vintage china cabinets (and armoire and hutch) in this not-large house, wonder if they’d do a hold until we added on a room for it? :D

I'm crazy for these MCM glass smalti mosaics. Isn't the texture wonderful? I only have one mosaic (not as lovely as yours) and it has a few broken tiles too. As you said, I don't think that is unusual for pieces of this age, and I don't mind a bit. Yours is such a pleasing piece. I think your idea to feature MCM bird art in their room is wonderful; there are so many fabulous birds in the designs from that era, and it's so fitting because of your happy crew! I enjoy the fun pictures of your beautiful birds, and it's great you were able to save the baby lovebird parrot. We rescued a female cockatiel a few years ago, when she appeared in our yard at the start of winter. We caught her and contacted a bird rescue group, who eventually placed her with a family. We learned to be respectful; she had probably been loose for a while, and did not appreciate being handled. And boy, could she yell! I also love the bird tiles by Lisa Larson, like the one below. (I'm sure we can come up with lots of ways to help you spend money on fabulous MCM bird art.)

I react to surface-mounted wiring (like you, I have no idea what the proper term is) the same way I react to heating vents and light switches and outlets and other necessary-but-unsightly-if-you-think-about-them-too-much items--I recognize that they are necessary and then don't think about them too much. I really don't think this is a big deal. Track lighting, though, is certainly worth looking into, as it sounds like it hadn't been on your radar as an option. It's a great solution for situations where you can't install junction boxes where you want them.

Nice piece. I recently bought a china/library cabinet even though I have a china cabinet in my dining room. I put the new one in my living room and absolutely love it. I got an armoire when my cousin moved that I intended to put there. Until I saw the interior. I'm going to give it some TLC dn it is going to become the linen cabinet when we redo our master bath. I love it also. I have to agree with 1929 Spanish -- never too many cabinets. Can always use more wall space (but not less windows).

Its lovely and seems well made. Quite a bargain. I have to smile when i see the furniture from my childhood friends homes pop up again.

@lascatx I love armoires! We have a large one in our great room. It houses the stereo equipment plus books, movies, cds, etc. My husband redid the insides (shelves) and our tv resides in the armoire. We also have an armoire in our bedroom which has a tv and lower shelves have assorted quilts, coverlets, etc. and our blankets. I seem to love cabinet type pieces (antique). We have two hoosier cabinets, an ice chest and a secretary LOL. I love that they can store everday items and hide it all away. : )

I have an armoire (that I still love) that used to hold my TV - but is now way too small for a TV. It has been moved up to a guest bedroom that I use when my grandkids spend the night. We keep books/toys/clothes/diapers/etc. inside of it. I know someone who turned one into a coffee bar + someone who used a more simple style of china cabinet in her renovated laundry room. I wish that was near me - I turn it into a bar for when the basement is finished!

It looks like a German Schrank (americanized as shrunk) to me (Shrunk: large cabinet/ wardrobe)

What a pretty cabinet, no matter what it's used for. Great hidden storage and just enough display. Did it sell quickly?

We have five armoires now. Only one came with the house and is instead of having a main bathroom closet. Holds so much and easy to find everything.
