Comments (26)When I paint I hold almost everything in my hands. If you sponge on the paint, dry it and then put it in the palm of your hand you should be able to dot his eyes. If you are right handed, dot the left eye first, it makes it easier to see where you are going. You can also make a dot of orange for his nose if you like, or I have been painting mine red and white candy stripe - different and cute. You have the sock then down right. Just remember to glue under the cuff so it won't come off when you put the string on to hang it on the tree. Let me know how it turns out. B...See MoreBuilding a wardrobe fast, I'm clueless.
Comments (59)What I called shells are plain tops, like tshirts but nicer??? if that makes sense. If you wear anything sleeveless you must wear a blazer or sweater. The first day went OK. Capris are OK if below the knee. Flipflops are OK on fridays and weekends. Wednesday and Thursday you can wear jeans if you pay a dollar for charity BUT you still have to be business casual. I guess your top half is business casual but your bottom is jeans. No ripped jeans ever. Shoes was not really discussed during our orientation so I have to ask about summer shoes. Like flat sandals that are not flipflops. Almost 18 DD paid me a compliment and she didn't even know it. Those shoe/boots I told you about (not sure what to call them). When I showed her, she tried them on. Said they didn't look that great on her. That's as close to a "I like what you picked out Mom" as I'm going to get, LOL....See MoreSetting limits for hobbies and crafts?
Comments (4)mommabird, that's kind of what I was thinking. It seems like when a project comes up, so often what it is on hand, is not what would work best. Often I end up out shopping for something more appropriate. Especially now that much of the sewing is done for a child, the fabrics should look modern, and even many fabrics that are only a decade old, look like fabrics from a decade ago. Since I don't do much of this anymore, compromising and using second best fabric does not sit well. Same thing with some of the yarns, particularly ones that were sent this way after my grandmother died. Most are really beautiful wool yarns, but wool is hard for me to work with, and the colors are not right. Part of me thinks I should just let them go, but then again, they are some nice yarns... I did go through a few months back and got rid of anything that didn't hold up well (faded in the wash, wore prematurely, etc), as well as smaller scraps that I couldn't imagine finding a use for. My mother was one who kept even the tiniest scrap declaring that it could be used in doll clothes or to make a doll quilt- great but that is not how I want to spend my limited time! I've got to break that influence that all resources are resources to be kept and used. Thanks for the feedback, I'm excited to get started going through this stuff, but fearful that I will freeze up and just put it all back away!...See MoreI'm so discouraged...Is this how it is with custom cabinet shops?
Comments (16)If you think this is bad, don't try building a house. In my experience almost everyone in the trades over-promises (or is overly optimistic, depending on the way you look at it). My custom cabinets were one of the few things that were actually delivered on time. However, they weren't installed on time because the electrician, plumber, drywaller and floor installer over-promised (well, lied, in the case of a few). This is just the way the construction trades are. I am convinced they follow the motto: it is easier to ask forgiveness than seek permission. Let's say they tell you the truth about when your cabinets will be in: "Well, I can't really say. We only have 10 employees so if even one quits or goes to jail it messes everything up. Our best finisher's wife is pregnant and also has a 2 year old. Last time she was bedridden her last 2 weeks. If that happens this time he will be out those two weeks plus a few after the baby is born. I can already tell you are a perfectionist and my second best finisher won't do, so I need to wait for this guy. Also, my dad, who founded this shop, has prostate cancer and if he dies the shop will close for 3 days...." Or, it could be he just doesn't know but thinks he can't tell you that (because you'll respond, "everyone I know who got their cabinets through HD or Lowes got them in 12 weeks"), so he just tells you what you want to hear....See MoreRelated Professionals
