Can you help with our backyard pool project?
Comments (5)If that is in US dollars, that is significantly more than we paid although our pool is smaller 15 X 30' ($47K CDN). But we are in Canada and I have learned that a number of factors impact your pool pricing beyond the materials, labour and equipment. Things like, access, difficulty of installation, retaining wall requirements, features, patio stones etc. Not to mention demand in your area. If you aren't sure which direction to take you should factor in the longer term maintenance cost of each type of pool. We originally liked the idea of fibreglass because they seem indestructible but when we polled our friends and neighbours about the durability of their vinyl liners, they had only positive things to say. Fibreglass is not yet common in my area and there are very few gunite pools here as well so I can't speak to those types of pools....See MoreHey guys! I really need help designing my backyard setup
Comments (3)You'd probably need to show the view in each direction. (Stand at center of the yard and take slightly overlapping photos of a 360*view -- without changing camera locations between any pictures.) And you probably need to show an outward bound view of 3/4 of the yard as taken from the patio center. (Again, in slightly overlapping pictures while the photographer does not change locations, but pivots.) And you'l need to show as close up as you can get of the yard from Google Satellite....See MoreHelp with family backyard design
Comments (3)Take this recommendation with a HUGE boulder of salt, Samantha, because I am a newbie gardener, but my home's previous owners overcame the lack of privacy offered by a chain link fence by planting bridal wreath spirea bushes along the fence line. Mine could do with some pruning, but at their shortest they're about five feet tall and when they leaf in the spring, I basically can't see into my neighbor's yard or into the alley from my yard. Plus, for about three weeks in the spring, they're filled with pretty white flowers!...See MoreNeed help with sloping backyard
Comments (22)It really isn't all that complicated to figure out how to have a larger flat lawn space. To do that you have to build a retaining wall on the downhill side next to the chainlink fence. That retaining wall will then connect to your upper paver patio and lower walkout basement concrete slab. Assuming the redone paver patio above stays at the same elevation and from your pictures, the most obvious elevation for your new flat lawn is the basement door level where the wheelbarrow and rake are sitting on that cement slab. Having the larger level lawn at the lower elevation means you might want steps off the paver patio above down to the lawn and that the stepped walkway against the house becomes unnecessary. I'll estimate this little project at 50k. At least more level ground is useful for more than a trampoline when the kids are over that....See MoreRelated Professionals
