Comments (10)Professionally finished cabinets are done in an opaque conversion varnish. Calling that “paint” is like calling your kids go kart an Indy car. Yeah, the’re both open wheel vehicles. No further similarities exist. If this guy doesn’t finish his products in house, with a conversion varnish, you don’t need to use him. Period. Your contractor is a hack by extension of even recommending this route. Professionally Finishing cabinets is 40-60% of the total cost of the cabinets. In other words, what you paid for the cabinets, get ready to write that same check to a pro finisher. Properly Finishing is just as much work as making them. Or more, if you want paint and glaze. Average for a standard 12x12 kitchen, redo, is 7-9K. Bigger kitchens are more. Taller cabinets are more. More details are more. Glazed are more. Islands are always more. Custom colors are more. And that’s with the doors done off site in a clean room, as they should be. All brand new cabinets should be coated in a clean room with a conversion varnish, by the maker, or his specialty finisher. See why I say he is a hack woodworker? A true custom cabinet maker controls the entire process, from lumber purchase through the installation in your home. He doesn’t allow some hack housepainter with a spray gun to ruin all his hard work....See MorePaint match from Dunn Edwards Smoke & Ash to Sherwin Williams?
Comments (14)Flo Mangan, oh you're good! Thank you so much! I went to SW and sifted through so many colors. I'll have to look and see if this made my cut. You are SoooOooooo right about light. Literally just walking from the color wall over to a table the colors were shifting like a shape shifter and I'd say, "Whaaat?!" and turn right back around, ha! This is for a vanity in the mountains and there isn't tons of light in the room. Will be interesting to light-test it! ci_lantro, I know! I LOVE those mirros and I've already 'reversed engineered' them in my minds. In fact, IN FACT, I went to HD yesterday to look for metal edges and found some great choices. Had black metal soot all over my hands and face, ha, and would need to find a way to moisture proof the metal. You can buy it on many places, houzz included, but the measurements are a big for my space. Lulu bella I love your name! It DOES look gray but I'll bet in the right light or non-light, or if the moon is right, or if it's the third Thursday in a month with the letter R it would look blue...or not, LOL! Thank you all so much!...See Morepainter substituted coronado paint for benjamin moore white dove
Comments (22)I am getting conflicting information of weather the color is the true color or a color match. The same store told me 2 different things. Sounds like it's too late now but FYI. The only way to know is to measure the Coronado mix to a new, clean paint chip - you need a target, a standard to measure against. Preferably not one from the fandeck. Ask the store to crack open a new pack of chips and pull one from there. Ordering a designer over-sized chip from Orderfront is best. Wherever you get the target paint chip, there are two ways to measure and compare it to a sample from the can. You need to paint a sample to measure. Two coats. Has to be thoroughly dry. The store can measure each and tell you the difference. You want them to tell you the Delta E. If it's under 1.0, it's a minimal difference and honestly hard to argue because it's a degree of difference most people would never notice. And, it's a degree of difference you're going to adapt to and pay no mind to in about two weeks. The other option if you don't trust the store is to order a Color Muse and measure the two colors yourself. The app has a compare function with a Delta E alert. If the two colors are a qualified match, you get a green Delta E. If there's a problem, it's red. Make sure you choose d65 from the menu like you see here. These colors are (obviously) not a match. You want to take 3 to 5 measurements from different areas of the chip and the painted sample just to get the most fair snapshot of both colors....See MoreWhat Sherwin Williams white paint matches KitchenAid white appliances?
Comments (9)We just went through this with our white appliances which are different brands for our new cabinets. It is impossible to get an exact match. It will be a compromise. Best to get paint samples and at least an 8X10 cardboard canvas from a crafts store. We created 7 samples from all the whites we tried and then narrowed it down. You have to look at the samples at different time of the day, sunny days, cloudy days for a good results. Good luck as there are so many shades of white that fall either on the cooler side or warmer side. The cooler side is where you want to be....See MoreRelated Professionals
