Layout questions for 7.5 x 8 hall bathroom with sit down vanity
Comments (4)I donÂt know if I can add anything to a discussion about the actual layout of the bathroom, because I would have to see a diagram of it to be able to comment intelligently. However, I am constantly looking for vanity concepts for the blog site I maintain with a fellow woodworker, and just this morning, coincidentally enough, I posted a blog on a fairly new product line from Kohler. They have come up with a wonderful idea for a whole line of bathroom fixtures, the heart of which is a vanity that seems like it would almost exactly fit your needs. IÂve posted a link to that blog at the bottom of this, if youÂre interested. A bathroom the size of yours does allow for extra large items, as opposed to the five by nine bathrooms we have in our home! But, even so, you donÂt have anything like unlimited space, which is what I found especially appealing about this particular line. Actually, they even have a smaller vanity that would fit into my postage stamp bathroom! But the whole line, as I said, is designed to conserve space while doing something nice and elegant. They even have a vanity stool with a built-in trash container! And room to slide it under the counter when itÂs not in use. Comments (9)I understand that light openings pointing down may cause shadows on a lady's face while putting on makeup,or when a man is trying to shave, but should vanity take precedence over common sense and practicality? My wife and her decorator went ahead and pointed a five sconce fixture facing up. Well, it certainly provided nice mood lighting in the bathroom, but doesn't throw the light downward onto the sink/counter. Also, it's above a mirror, the sconce openings are 7 1/2 feet above the floor and 8 inches from the ceiling. So, aside from cleaning the damn things from bugs, cobwebs, dust - do you know how difficult it will be changing light bulbs? Instead of reaching underneath, we (or I) will have to get a ladder or stand on the sink and fit hand and arm between ceiling and sconce - rather than just stand on solid flooring, reach under, clean or change the bulb. Thanks for giving me a space to vent....See MoreNeed help with bathroom vanity - x-post with Bathrooms
Comments (13)I had the exact same problem. I picked out the vanity I wanted but did not think about the fact that it wasn't made to sit flush against the wall. I spent a month looking for something else, but in the end we decided to go with something shorter and have it not be against the wall. But we were going from 72" to 60" which is probably not workable in your mom's situation. I did find a lot of vanities that did have flat sides and could work in a corner, if you are willing to have the countertop fabricated. They just need to not have any trim detail on the top or bottom like the one you picked out does. I would just look at the ones without the pre-made tops. Because the pre-made top will still leave you with a slight gap because of the countertop overhang. This is an example: Avanity Modero which is sold everywhere, not just at Lowe's. The cabinet we ended up buying is an Avanity Madison which won't work for you, but I assume it is of similar quality. We are pretty happy with it. The drawers and doors have soft close but I do feel like the glides in my Ikea kitchen drawers are better quality. It is very pretty and I wanted a stained wood so I am really happy with our choice. If I had been willing to go with a painted finish, I think we might have stuck with the 72" Modero....See Morebest vanity bar above bathroom sink that won’t cast shadows on my face
Comments (1)Hi Drrobinjames, In thinking about a reduced shadow casting, I came across this LED fixture in my web store. It's a modern design, but my reason for choosing it is due to the diffuser lens of the fixture, and it's single bar design. Without seeing or knowing the actual space it would be installed in, I feel that this would be a very good bet for keeping shadows at a minimum. This bathroom wall light is also well lensed and would cast a minimum of shadow, but has a bit more style to it.
