Quartz countertops

Need opinions on Quartz countertops! Are they all equal in quality? Compare silestone, cambria, viatera, MSI..so many to choose from.. Need advice from those who have it installed in their home how you like it and which one you choose

I choose my quart based on who has the best color and/or pattern for the design of the space.

I have used quartz from Cambria, Caesarstone, Pental and Radianz in two houses, for bathrooms, laundry and mudroom. I have only used natural stone (quartzite) in the kitchens. No issues with any of the quartz products I have used.

I will make a comment on MSI. They seem to be the company that gets the most complaints on these forums, so make sure you do some research and look at reviews.

Also do some research on polished versus honed finishes with quartz. Some of the honed finishes seem to be prone to marks and/or staining.

The great things with quartz, compared to natural stone, is that you can order nice sized samples from the manufacturers. Order the ones you are interested in and test them out with the cooking products you use in your cooking, like spices and oils. See f they stain and how easily they can be cleaned. Search for some old posts that show some detailed testing of quartz samples.

Been in the biz for 42 years. The only issues I've had in the past were when the companies went out of business (ie. Florenata). I would go with a big name company....not a new kid on the block. (Silestone, Cambria, LG Viatera or Hanstone to name a few)

"My installer has said that to install the new quartz countertop the cutout for the stove top will basically be 4 seperate pieces surrounding it. So, not one solid piece with a cut out. Is this correct?" No. Your installer is trying to lessen his risk of breakage, although it's already low with engineered stone, and buy less material all at the expense of your having unnecessary seams. Seams that will attract contamination, no matter how well done; particularly at a cooktop. A properly fabricated and installed cutout for heat generating appliances will not fail. Insist, please.

I just had a quartz counter installed in my bathroom and notice those dull dots all over on the top. I’ve been looking for Quartz my kitchen counters and looked at several different brands. I see the dull dots on some and not others. It seems they appear on the cheaper brands? Maybe it’s a coincidence? I asked my court supplier why it looks like that and he said I don’t know? I do notice though that there are some that say polish and I don’t see those little doll dots so I wonder if it’s a finishing process on the quartz? Anyone have any similar situation if you hold it in a certain light, it looks like a bunch of pixels on a computer.

Thank you to everyone who responded, very much appreciate your iput. The owners of the company agreed to replace the counter at their cost and do it correctly - this was achieved only because we could back up our claims of an incorrect install based on the information provided by you all! Sammy - unfortunately, my sister lost her two dogs and cat in the fire; she was not home. The cause of the fire was the slight reverberations of the built-in microwave caused a screw in the mounting bracket to slowly over time rub the the casing off an electrical wire in the wall; the fire investigator had never seen this before and is now using this in their training. She would trade all of her possessions to have her pets back, a year later it's still devastating for her to have lost them. Again thanks to all and hope everyone has a happy, healthy, safe and prosperous New Year!

IMO any type od stainless polish is oil based yes it looks pretty but collects dust kind of like window cleaner they really want you to buy more . I use a micro fiber cloth with hot water a a bit of vinegar I have a ton of stainless in my kitchen even some cabinets it takes 5 minutes to wipe down they stay nice looking for a few days. Is your counter honed quartz or a matte finish >

At this point I only sell Cambria but its because I live near a Cambria showroom where we can look at full slabs- so much easier than 12" square samples to see how it actually looks. Have never had a problem with Cambria or lg (no experience with the others)
