Can't remember who but there is a photo posted of a pot rack running across an upper cabinet -- basically a hanging rod across the top with hooks for hanging pots. I have a flat lazy susan in the upper cabinet next to my cook top that has most of oils and vinegars. There is space on either side for a row of bottles. I came to hate those things for spices and small things that get lost in the center, but with taller bottles, it works well. The most efficient spice storage I have found is a drawer with upright bottles. I have 110 bottles in a 24" drawer. I have some rubs and baking items in the cabinet above -- using one of those riser things and another lazy susan for baking decorations. I have always put foils and wraps in a drawer or lower space -- they are going to be longer than the depth of an upper cabient unless you have 24" deep space. My hot pads are also in a drawer next to my ovens.

I had a few extra inches planned between my refrigerator and framed entranceway so that the refrigerator door could open fully. A panel was supposed to cover it. I never would have been able to do something really useful with the few inches as I didn't need a pull-out that big right next to my doorway. After the sheetrock was put up, we discovered a few more inches! I remembered that someone on this forum had a cabinet mounted sideways next to the refrigerator so that it opened out. I kind of used that idea but the cabinet opening is on the other side of the doorway. So now I've got a recessed custom built-in cabinet in my tiny mudroom. The cabinet depth is the door frame and "kitchen filler space". The filler space is covered by a small panel and I think of it as my reclaimed/found space! jayne

The 30 year old kitchen I have now was ahead of its time with its pullouts. I still like them fine. People make a big deal of the extra second it takes to open the doors first, but that has never bothered me. You do have to be a little more careful to not open the pullouts with the doors partially opened. I guess what I do like about them is the low sides. I rarely pull them all the way open, just when I need something at the back. And it's a different look-- if you like the door fronts, you won't kick yourself for getting pull-outs. Just don't do regular lowers that require the kneepads and the rummaging,that is a whole different story! That said, we are building a new house and I guess I "drank the KoolAid" because it does have all drawers. Lovely, slab-fronted, soft-closing, full extension drawers, and tons of them. And I love that, too. But it does look different. If you do a lot of reading on this forum, you may think it is the only way to go, but I honestly don't suffer a lot from the extra second it takes to open a door in front of a pullout. Plus they are theoretically adjustable, although I've never adjusted mine. (With the drawers, we measured everything and decided where everything goes in advance.)

"My cabinets are filled with Tupperware,pots and pans mostly." Do you need all the Tupperware containers? I used to have a large amount, but when I remodeled I took to heart the recommendation here to scrutinize what you have and get rid of duplicates, rarely used items, etc. For example: I realized all the large plastic containers are only used at Christmas when I go into a cookie baking frenzy. I purged them and got down to only a few - and I store them in the basement b/w Christmas seasons. I realized that I never use all the Tupperware containers at one time, so I monitored my use for a couple of months and got rid of almost half! I also got rid of all those containers that I had lost the top for or that were the flimsy plastic ones I had accumulated over the years (e.g., Ziploc or Glad reusable) . I now store all my containers in one 33"W drawer + 1/2 of a 31"W drawer. (A few years ago, I replaced the vast majority of my plastic containers with glass containers so they can go directly into the MW - especially useful at work!) . Do you need all the post & pans that you have? Do you have multiples of pots/pans the same size? Do you have old ones that you just can't bring yourself to get rid of, etc.? Get rid of them! . I donated a lot of items to family and friends. I also saved some things that I knew my kids would need when they got their own place - I stored them in the basement in boxes.
