This is all great advice & makes lots of sense regarding the size of the rug & position of chairs. Yvonne, you are right on with your comment on the books & lone chair. In order to move the chair up we either need to move the media console or get a smaller one. Where you you suggest books / how to storage / display them? This room had lots of windows not much space for a traditional book case.

You could look into moving the TV to the blank wall to the left. Then place the sofa, facing the TV, in front of the window and flanking the TV with both chairs you have or placing the recliner to the left of the sofa and the other chair to the right of the TV. You'll see a variety of layouts below that could work in your space. Maybe take a moment to look through them and see if any call to you.

I had to give an exact location for my 2 floor outlets during construction because I am on a slab. Of course, I ended up arranging the furniture differently than I had originally planned! One of my outlets ended up completely covered by the area rug. I made it work with the other outlet, but had to use an extension cord and part of it is under the area rug. Not ideal, but it isn't a high traffic area. Some people will cut holes in area rugs to run the plugs through it, but I wasn't willing to do that with a hand-knotted rug.

Some suggestions: --Swing the (way too big) sectional around so the back forms a walkway behind it. Other section will be under the window about a foot away. Alternatively, swing the sectional so one side faces the window and the other forms that walkway. (Playpen can go in front of the window.) This opens up the window, which should have plain ceiling to floor white curtains. Move the rug so it lines up with the door, not the sidelight windows. --Move the console & TV across the wall from where it is right now. Put a slim console table on the wall where you now have TV for a drop zone with a lamp, basket, and place to stow shoes underneath when people enter. --Playpens are temporary, but if you can get a smaller one, float it on the kitchen side of the rug, not far from where you have it. --Get a big, round colorful leather ottoman with a cover for stashing toys later on or two small ones. --A large colorful painting in primary colors, or set of Matisse cutout prints, would be family friendly in a room where there are going to be toys around for a long time. Lively art would balance out the bulk of the sectional. Relocate the jumble of framed photos to hallways and bedrooms. And no ladder.
