need help for crack on my bathroom tile floor
Comments (2)Thank you for responding. I'll try to post a photo. This was a diy addition . The 3/4 inch plywood was nailed and then leveling compound and then heating pads in mortar and mortar placed on top of pads and then tile. When it started cracking, my hubby filled it with grout. It's hard to see, but it starts at the corner spreading horizontally....See MoreNeed help pairing bathroom mosaic floor tile
Comments (10)I am going with a 2" hex style black and white tile. I love the look of the "old" tiles like the hex and basket weave. I don't like subway, either, though and I felt that glass mosaic didn't look right with either. I'm going with Florida Tile's Calacatta http://www.floridatile.com/products/precious in the shower and a 4 x 4 white square around the tub. I would look at a Calacatta or Cararra porcelain subway (or larger brick style). You'll really need samples of both with your basket weave to make sure that the whites match. In one brand (can't remember which), the Calacatta was too warm, but their Cararra matched well. Florida Tile's Calacatta matched better than the Cararra. It comes in several sizes including an elongated hex and herringbone.... but that may be too busy for the basketweave....See MoreNeed help with bathroom vanity - x-post with Bathrooms
Comments (13)I had the exact same problem. I picked out the vanity I wanted but did not think about the fact that it wasn't made to sit flush against the wall. I spent a month looking for something else, but in the end we decided to go with something shorter and have it not be against the wall. But we were going from 72" to 60" which is probably not workable in your mom's situation. I did find a lot of vanities that did have flat sides and could work in a corner, if you are willing to have the countertop fabricated. They just need to not have any trim detail on the top or bottom like the one you picked out does. I would just look at the ones without the pre-made tops. Because the pre-made top will still leave you with a slight gap because of the countertop overhang. This is an example: Avanity Modero which is sold everywhere, not just at Lowe's. The cabinet we ended up buying is an Avanity Madison which won't work for you, but I assume it is of similar quality. We are pretty happy with it. The drawers and doors have soft close but I do feel like the glides in my Ikea kitchen drawers are better quality. It is very pretty and I wanted a stained wood so I am really happy with our choice. If I had been willing to go with a painted finish, I think we might have stuck with the 72" Modero....See MoreNeed help in bathroom floor tile choices
Comments (7)I totally understand your concerns about maintaining congruity with the era of the house. My personal feeling is the the mix of old and new is what makes design interesting. I'm not a fan of walking into say an all modern room in a vintage home. It's jarring. But intentionally integrating a modern element into a more traditional space can be the spark that "makes" it. So, for your bathroom, the larger hex can be a "riff" on the classic tile - that updates it while playing homage to the house's era. At the same time, the use of a solid blue on the floor is already a more modern use of the material. So you could go with a smaller blue hex rather than the larger. I would choose your grout very carefully. I personally don't like a ton of contrast between the tile color and the grout. It just looks really busy to my eye. I also am imminently practical and would never put white grout on a floor. Something in the medium gray range would probably work best but I would have your tile installer make you up a couple sample boards once you get to that point. Smaller hex in a solid color: Grout similar to tile color:...See MoreRelated Professionals
