OK sounds like you have just enough space even allowing for chairs etc. I would tape out the 72" table and width of the chairs just outside of that to ensure you like the walking space if people are seated at the table. Painters tape works great for this.

honestly less is more, I would consider a new light fixture and wall art. move the bench to the back and the chairs to the foreground. Or if there is a leaf in the table take it out and remove the bench altogether.

I am looking for a dining room table (10-12 people) that will not scratch easily. I am having the hardest time finding one. I have 4 kids under the age of 9, and I am frustrated with tables that don't last. Any trusted brands? HELP please!
